Should I go through the trouble of just creating an IPsec tunnel between my mom's house and my house so she can continue to use my netflix... or just pay for a second netflix account...

If both sides have a router capable of setting up IPsec tunnels, you'd configure both sides to connect to each other with the same "phase 1 and phase 2" policies. You would also set the remote end to send traffic destined to Netflix IP addresses/subnets to your side and then you'd set your side to allow that traffic and send it out your own internet service.

It's a tiny bit complicated, but it's the kind of thing where once you get it working, you don't really have to mess with it again until IP addresses change on one or both sides.

If you're lazy and have extra stamps and big envelopes, you can drop to just DVD netflix, watch the DVD, mail it to your mom, and have your mom put it in the mailbox after.

Also, DVD Netflix still exists for some reason. https://dvd.netflix.com/

I ditched Netflix steaming maybe a year ago, and only do the Netflix DVDs now.
...or whenever the second half of He-Man was. That ended up being a decent show, but nobody watched the back half.

Ah. I think the convenience of streaming has made me super lazy.

Like... Back in the Blockbuster days, I was gleefully going to Blockbuster with my mom every 2 to 3 days to rent more movies and video games.

Then Blockbuster accused me of stealing Nightmare on Elm Street and we never went back. Netflix was already a thing, so we started using that for DVDs and blu-rays. We were always mailing stuff out and getting stuff in. It was great.

Now that almost everything is on streaming, it's just easier to access.

I stopped subscribing to Netflix a while back, but if I still was and due to a VPN or adblocker or some shit they locked my account, I would be issuing a chargeback via my bank. I imagine plenty of people would and when those stack up Netflix would get fucked by the banks

That it has, but there's hundreds of them now. Netflix has lived long enough to become the villain.
I pay for Amazon just to get free shipping on drunken purchases - streaming is a bonus.
I pay for Disney Bundle mostly just for hockey - everything else is a bonus.
Tubi, Freevee, Crackle (but crackle sucks), Pluto, and couple other thing I can't remember offhand cover the rest. Yes, there's ads, but I can tolerate ads for free.

Wait you mean people actually pay for Netflix? I was always under the impression that it was some kind of free service like Pluto tv... how strange you learn something new every day.

Ive had a Netflix account logged into my Xbox for years and have no ideas who it is

Remember when they started streaming back in like 2008 and there was a dedicated Xbox 360 app for it with a full blown virtual movie theater you could chill in as your avatar with your friends to watch stuff together

Now its the same damn app across all platforms

A nice example of technology getting worse in the future

Nah. Plenty of reasons to be mad about it. They're only doing this because they're losing customers. But instead of focusing on content that will pull in viewers, they're trying to force more people to pay for an account.

And the method for detecting a device "outside your home" is too simple. It will stop account sharing, but it will also block anyone that tries to use their own account outside of their home. It's a very all or nothing approach and it's going to lose them customers for sure.

Nope. I pay for it and Im not happy. I am the only person who uses my account but I do use it in multiple places. If Im no longer allowed to do that then I get rid of it.

And also the people who assumed Netflix was a family plan, so long as two or four (depending on tier) weren't watching at once.

All thats going to happen is they lose subscribers. They think theyll gain subscribers since people will have to get their own account. But even in the article, people were willing to just not watch it. And with all the other services, itll be easy to do so. And they mention the other services will do the same thing. But if this move kills NetFlix, then the other services will most likely stay away

I wonder, though Would VPNs work to help trick the system into thinking you were closer than you really were?

I pay more to share the account with my parents. Why pay to have 4 devices connected at once if they're all coming from the same house? That plan is really for a niche group, and moving forward, it now loses its value.

And the content on Netflix is not worth $16 a month. If anything, now a lot more people will move to a monthly decision plan or cancel their subscriptions altogether. It might not happen to start, but it will certainly move that way.

Or people who arent in the same place all the time. I dont want to pay $3 extra a month to sometime watch it at work. Or my BFs house. Or when I visit home once or twice a year. Or when I have to go on a month long TDY (or, God Forbid, a deployment)

I think its the same for many people. Since it didnt matter, some people have just been logged into an account for years, even though they may not even talk to that person anymore

I saw that And may think about it Though, it seems pretty complicated Maybe I could watch a video on how to do it Though, it only works for certain things It may not work for what I need it for

I know one thing I'm looking forward to watching on Netflix next year is One Piece.
