It made a lot of money in countries outside of the US. It had a universal message and theme, and had groundbreaking visuals. Every single person who worked with him on The Abyss except the song writer refused to work with him again. Some of the actors won't even speak about it because it was so traumatizing. He apparently thinks he's better than his staff and treats them terribly, and only shows respect to other high-profile people. Kojima on the other hand is just a simple caring guy by his nature. The natives can teach us things too!) and Cameron has always been bad at those. But his talent is obviously visual cinema and he's elite at that.
