I don't really get why Cameron has been so successful with his movies. They're fine, don't get me wrong, but they're not THAT great. Terminator was as good as it got for him and yet Titanic and Avatar were the highest grossing films of all time at their release.

Titanic is understandable. Everyone wanted to see the epic disaster, and more importantly it had young Leo and teenage girls went back to the theaters 15 times

Avatar is more confusingits certainly a world wide hit. It made a lot of money in countries outside of the US. It had a universal message and theme, and had groundbreaking visuals. Im guessing thats why

Hideo Kojima.

I've heard the nightmare stories people have had working with James Cameron. Every single person who worked with him on The Abyss except the song writer refused to work with him again. Some of the actors won't even speak about it because it was so traumatizing. He apparently thinks he's better than his staff and treats them terribly, and only shows respect to other high-profile people.

Kojima on the other hand is just a simple caring guy by his nature. When he designs his characters he makes sure people can cosplay them on a budget, only using accessories that can be bought or made cheaply.

MGS 3 is close behind it. But I like them for very different reasons. 3 has one of the best stories Ive ever seen in a game, and V had probably the best gameplay Ive ever played in a game. What about you?

Avatar is an absolute masterpiece of visual cinematic achievement. The story and storytelling are embarrassingly dated (Save the whales! Colonialism is bad! The natives can teach us things too!) and Cameron has always been bad at those. But his talent is obviously visual cinema and he's elite at that. Kojima is a pretty good storyteller and his visual design is also good but I don't feel like he's truly legendary.

Both have "highs and lows", but I probably would give the edge to Kojima just because I like the Metal Gear franchise more then Terminator. Both being the only franchises by the two I really care about.

Cameron has had some good movies, T1, T2, and The Abyss. I've never played a Kojima game though.

With that being said, based on Cameron's antics of late with Avatar 2, I'm going with Kojima.

I don't know that I'd include The Abyss on that list, I thought it was kind of lame. Though I'd definitely point out that you forgot Aliens.

I'd also toss True Lies and Point Break onto the list - neither are great movies, but they're both cheesy fun.

As for the other part, I've played Kojima games... I've just never liked one. So Cameron's winning by default for me.

I don't particularly care for either, but I've at least been interested in some of James Cameron's work. Nothing I would put within a top 50 or so, but I've seen some of his movies.

True Lies is worth a mention. Cameron is good at core movie fun, characters, and visuals even if his storylines aren't uber amazing.

Metal Gear wasn't my thing, so...Cameron.
