Well I can give her that for a while the she was back to back doing big name action movies like no other woman I can recall. But that quote from the interview is just silly, wrong and self absorbed.

This is a case where she's overstating, but I can still believe that she got pushback that male leads are better. Nobody had put a woman in the lead role in an action film? That's obviously nonsense. Was she told people identify better with a man as the lead? I believe her that she did despite the earlier part. There's been a serious pushback against women in action roles, all the superhero films with women in them are getting heat online from weirdos all over the place.

The first "big" one is probably Ripley/Sigourney Weaver. Leia is another good example, but she isn't really the 'main character,' so she doesn't really count.

Obviously, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor fits the bill, too, but she's not truly an action hero until T2. In the first one she kinda just gets led around until the very end.

So in terms of a "big female main character in an action movie" it's gotta be Ripley.

I would not even call Katniss an action hero, she does not even want to fight so many times and does all she can NOT to be a go getter, or woman putting foot to ass.
