It is insulting to older female action stars. Linda Hamilton, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver. She basically told all them to fuck off. Someone should ask those women about this

Apparently not. Cause I don't see what the issue is. I named 3 famous women of action that were doing their thing before Jennifer was even born

Maybe best case scenario she meant it was the first time Hollywood set out to make an action franchise with a female lead instead of the previous ones being big enough movies to eventually get sequels made?

That was a really dumb thing to say. Idk what she was thinking when saying that and not surprise by the backlash, it was really insulting and made her look like she got some ego.

Right, but those were just one movie that became popular enough to get sequels. The Hunger Games was planned to be a series from the beginning.

Asia has had tons of female led action movies. Chang Pei Pei gets no respect she was kicking ass and taking names and doing her own stunts much better than any of these Hollywood actors and she was doing it in the 60s.

People know what they know and let's face it, if it's outside of the Anglosphere, most Americans, Canadians, and Britons (i.e. the majority of people who post GameFAQs) don't go out of their way to see cinema from other corners of the world.

That doesn't make the point about Cheng's career any less valid but I think it's weird to castigate others for only knowing about what's directly presented to them.

It's tricky with these comments on articles because a lot of people don't really take into account they're making an off the cuff comment during an interview when people act like they're submitting a written debate. Happens a lot with the comments about Marvel too.

It makes for good clicks so it won't stop happening.

The larger point she was trying to make was pretty obvious in the original quote: someone, presumably a single-digit IQ studio exec, told her at the time that female-led action movies don't sell to a wide audience. She simply shot herself in the foot by starting off with a rather ill-informed yet probably unintentional self-congratulation.

there's also a whole generation of people who were teens or younger when Hunger Games came out and she actually was the first female hero they saw in an action movie
