I didn't read that post as him saying that part was unfair. I read it as him starting his list with a legitimate point of criticism that reviewers docked them for that was just followed up with far more subjective opinions.

Damn wokes. I always knew it was them. Even when it was my shitty game design, I knew it was them.

While the game did have technical issues at launch (they were later fixed), it WAS also blasted for having a gruff, white, male protagonist, which I thought was unfair. I love that gaming protagonists are so diverse nowadays, but it is still okay to have traditional roles as well.

Deacon St. John ended up being a good character, even if he seemed clich at first.

Something annoyed me in the story:

Like half the game:

"Let her go: your wives gone!"
"NO SHES NOT"

When you see your wife:
"Oh hi babe"

Was going to get the game since I'm looking for something to keep me occupied on Playstation

This steered me away from that. I'll find another game then lol

Yes, a lot of it in fact. It's just that it's so painfully standard (from the outside, at least) it blends into the background. It's an open world survival game where zombies have taken over... With its only real "mechanic" that sets it apart is that you have a demon-possessed motorcycle. Keep in mind that the game isn't new and it came out just after the height of DayZ's popularity (which is almost certainly why its name contains "Day"...) so it basically came out just after its genre sailed off.

I also really enjoyed days gone and Pokmon violet and think most people are impressionable idiots.

I playd it recently and was surprised to learn about the luke warm reception at first. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing mind blowing, but a very enjoyable 8.1-8.4 game. A few changes here and there and it couldve been a 9.

Yeah I distinctly remember the weird backlash it got when it came out about the character. That was weird and it came out at a weird time pre-Covid. It was at the height of trumpism and people just assumed negative stereotypes about bikers when it got announced.

If they had like, 6 more months to fix all the technical bugs, it would have reviewed better.

It has like a 7.2/10 on Open Critic. I played it on PS5 after all the fixes and I'd give it like an 8.25

It would have averaged 8/10 if not for the technical bugs.

I liked it a lot but I didnt play it at launch. This jackass hasnt done himself or the game any favors. This is the same guy that said Dont complain about no sequel if you didnt buy the game at full price.

Not sure how the dude is shocked when he made the main character great value sons of anarchy douche bag biker.

Out of curiosity I looked up the MC's wife expecting her in leathers or hot pants

To be fair, the Skyrim reviews skipped those.

this game was as average as it gets. not to mention its repetitive as fuck and unneccessarily long...

but sure, blame "woke" reviewers or whatever.

I haven't played it yet, but I remember watching some of the videos before the game was released, and you could see how passionate the creators were about the project.

unfortunately, passion doesn't always translate to success, but it can lead to people for looking for reasons outside of the product itself as to why it do as well as they hoped.

Did you actually play it? Doubt it.

He was not a douchebag, and actually seemed like he was pretty liberal.

I haven't played it, but I know the game was blasted by game "journalists" for the unforgivable modern age sin of having a white male protagonist who shows sexual interest in his girlfriend/wife. Garvin appears to be 100% correct with his take. Now, maybe the game has more issues beyond those three reasons, but it's still a good example of what a pathetic joke game "journalism" has become.

They really didn't. The bugs were just not nearly as damning as people like to meme about. Bethisda games are super buggy, but not in ways that make the game experience dramatically worse.

So many games have that basic white guy template. And yet this is what called the game to crash.

It felt like a B budget attempt to do last of us. The animations are janky and the AI is stupid.

The "Day's" reference might be to DayZ (I dunno) but it does use it in the game to reference how many days have passed since the mess started. "787 days gone", etc.

The GI reviewer back in the day lamented over the bugs towards the end of the article, which arguably kept it from getting a perfect score.

Skyrim was very buggy at launch, and not just in the goofy graphical glitches department - numerous quests were incredibly easy to break. Some of this was Bethesda over-estimating their programming abilities (the old criteria for successfully triggering 'Blood on the Ice' read like a voodoo ritual), and some of it was lessons Bethesda should have learned years prior (like a later quest breaking completely because you entered the wrong cave early...in a game where go-anywhere, do-anything exploration is the primary draw). Frustration over this was compounded by Bethesda prioritizing fixing 'good' bugs (like the Oghma Infinium leveling exploit) over actual harmful bugs - they didn't even touch 'Blood on the Ice' until six months after release.

Skyrim was also the game where Bethesda started getting a bad (and deserved) reputation for their patches causing more bugs than they fixed, a tradition that continues to drag them down to this day.

Thinking about this more, the main character has some fuckin bizarre line delivery throughout the game and I wouldnt be surprised if it was due to the direction he was getting. The voice actor is Sam Witwer, who was Darth Maul in The Clone Wars among other things. I think he did the best with what he was given.

Yet nothing you said actually changes what I did. A random quest not functioning in a reasonable manner is annoying, but not damning. Massive lag and constant crashes is. Taking six months to get a fix is a problem for players, but it means absolutely nothing in a day 1 review. Reviewers aren't doing 100% runs of the game, that is something that players do. Similarly utterly random bugs like floating cutlery is something that a player will experience but a game reviewer isn't going to have the time to just throw random crap around on the off chance of there being a bug.

Now this is complete and utter horseshit.

Bethesda games are my absolute favorite, but days gone was a perfectly coded masterpiece compared to any of them.

Ive had overflow errors that started deleting any new item not only of the save file involved but every other character and file saved. Entire quest lines unplayable. None of this even mentions the 0kb error.
