Someone legit probably has a problem, shot of liquor first thing in the morning at work is a real bad sign. Alcohol can take over a person's life and day to day activities, work, etc.

have you ever been addicted to alcohol, to the point where you're drinking liquor at 8am? i have. and it fucking sucks. meanwhile, i've been addicted to caffeine for over 20 years and it hasn't torn my life apart

I'd argue that drinking at a fast food job is worse.

Drinking at a court house job you can definitely do something stupid and get fired, but drinking at a fast food job you have the potential to hurt yourself or somebody else.

The primary reason I don't drink at work isn't because I'm scared of getting fired, it's because I work with a lot of potentially dangerous machines, tools and equipment.

I used to down at least a fifth of vodka every night ~4 months ago (went to rehab and currently clean as of now..), but my greatest fear was getting to the point that I would feel the need to drink during work or in the mornings. Or, working in tech and always being on-call, something going down and being too drunk to respond. I got lucky in that regard.

Nothing quite like going overboard the night before and showing up to work still drunk, in absolute agony sitting in meetings as the hangover kicks in while feeling like youre going to puke your guts up at any minute.

Alcoholism is a hell of a thing. The mind will pull every form of mental gymnastics possible to tell you why you should drink. After a while your body becomes so dependent on it your brain equates its necessity to that of food and water.

I function better and have a better attitude if Im just a bit buzzed, Things will be more fun and Ill feel better doing it, etc.

Reading through the blue books personal stories, it seems like most of the people started out drinking like we do, and it wasnt until ~10+ years that they got to that point.. obviously YMMV in your level of addiction, but what may seem completely unreasonable now (drinking in the morning / before work) can become easier for your brain to spin as a normal thing years down the road of continuous hard drinking.

For me personally, I think having a job that keeps me physically active helps with not having too strong of an urge to drink during the day. I drink a lot of water too.

I'm sure things would be different if I was sitting at a desk or something like that.
