Got nothing against Sterling but everyone else up front is better than him.

The main problem is him not being available further reduces available options to Southgate.

I said earlier in the tournament the winner of England France makes the final. I still think that'll be the case.

I'll still back France as the favorite, but I'm interested in seeing England run into a big team.

Senegal looked absolutely ass today, of course missing two key players on the midfield is a big loss for a team that doesn't have the same depth as a team like England. Of course not having Mane would always be a hindrance for the real run. But you could see a clear drop of quality today and I'm not gonna credit all of that to England.

The Southgate era has really been incredible.

The Knockout Stage has been relatively tame so far. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some unexpected results? We shall see.

For that half hour or whatever Senegal was still somewhat in the match, they challenged all 4 in the backline with their speed. All 4 struggled to keep up and Walker is lucky to not have a yellow. Then you look at Mbappe and even also Dembele (lacks finishing but is just as fast and can assist). I think that's my main case for considering France favorites.

England basically need 2 guys covering Mbappe to stop him. I dunno about a back 5 we need a back 6 against France.

Switzerland is also a very good bet imo. They're pretty close to Portugal in strength and usually performs well against top teams. Winning the group with France in 06 and beating eventual WC winners Spain in 10 come to mind. They also knocked France out of the Euros a year ago and knocked Euro winners Italy out of WC qualifications for something relevant to this squad. The potential is definitely there.

Oh, perhaps not a shock, I just read upset and it would still be that imo.

Was shitting it for France before we'd even kicked off today. No disrespect to Senegal but a loss against Senegal and it's just a shit tournament for England, a win against Senegal and it is just business as normal.
A win against France is very similar to the pressure of Germany last year, we've won our first match at the world cup against a world cup winner since 66 and no matter what happens for the rest of the tournament, is a good sign that the culture around the team is actually changing from self defeating underachievers. A loss and it's just same old ingerland and i'm so fucking sick of same old ingerland.

If we beat France this will literally be our first win against a world class opponent in the knockout stages since 66. It's pretty clear Germany are on a bit of a downer at the moment so you can't really say last summer counts.

If this is based on paper then i disagree with this, i think Portugal have one of the strongest squads at the tournament. They've been much less than the sum of their parts for a very long while but the individual quality of the Portuguese team is very strong. Comparable to the Brazil's and France's of the tournament.

I also think if we're gonna win it we'll be beating France>Spain>Brazil. Any team that beats those 3 in a row deserves to lift the trophy.

Yep. Beating France would be the biggest win since 66. Don't think it'll happen, but at least it's an actual good team and potential winners this time and not a beatable Croatia.

Reminds me slightly of playing Brazil in 2002.
