I felt like SF was going to smash the Dolphins all week... Then they beat them by 16 with a backup QB.

SF's machine doesn't really depend on the QB

as evidenced by the fact that they keep winning with Jimmy G

Also, with Miami and Kansas City both losing, Buffalo is suddenly the 1 seed in the AFC again.

None of my bets hit, I lost in fantasy, Broncos and Rams couldn't hold on for the win (Bears need them to win one more game each to hang on to the #2 pick due to tiebreakers). Terrible day all around!

This was the last difficult game for the Chiefs, got two games against the Broncos, then Seahawks, Texans and Raiders.

so realistically the Bills need to finish undefeated to hold onto the 1 seed

Losing to the Cardinals felt almost season killing (if it happened), but this is in conference for a team that already has a bad conference tiebreaker. The Chargers are not getting in with 9 wins.

Are they though? 4 losses in-conferences is the same as the Jets. Pats only have 3 but also have Bengals, Dolphins, and Bills.

Definitely a bad loss but I'm not so sure that's the reason why so much as on paper it's a game they should have won.

The Chargers loss here is devastating. I don't think they beat Miami next week, either. This will put them at 6-7 with a horrid conference record (4-5).

Their best case scenario at a quick glance appears to be a common games tiebreaker with the Jets, unless weird stuff happens. So they absolutely need to get to 10-7 (and hope the Jets don't), which means winning out, which is possible, but here's a tiebreaker rundown:

Cleveland (Both won)
Miami (Jets won once, Chargers play next week)
Denver (Both won, Chargers host Denver in finale)
Jacksonville (Chargers lost, Jets have yet to play)
Seattle (Chargers lost, Jets have yet to play)

(This is 3-0 to 2-2. Chargers losing to Miami puts them 2-3, meaning all the Jets need is one more win in there to have it.)

The Jets are in a position where they actually really want Miami to win this game. It double wrecks the Chargers tiebreaker. As far as I see, as long as the Jets beat either one of Jacksonville or Miami, they will have the tiebreaker on lockdown. This gives them, at worst, a tie in conference record, and a guaranteed win in common games.

So yeah, Jets fans.. Root for Miami next week.

I expect the Jets to miss the playoffs by a game in classic Jets fashion so blowing a game to the Jaguars would be on brand though I still expect it to be the Patriots who eliminate them because this is the worst world.

I hope it comes down to the Jets needing Zach Wilson to come off the bench in Week 17 for some reason

This loss by the Chargers significantly boosted the Jets chances, because it means they're much more likely to make it at 10-7 (which wasn't guaranteed before), and they even still have a shot at 9-8. Unless Miami blows it to the Chargers, in which case that's REALLY bad news for the Jets.

The only scenario where the Jets can go 10-7 and be out is if they specifically beat Detroit and Seattle, but lose to Jacksonville and Miami.

The NFC games are significantly less important. Even at 9-8, the Jets will still always win the tiebreaker so long as they beat the Jaguars or Dolphins, and the Chargers loss wasn't specifically to the Rams.

Speaking of SNF, I've suspected for a while now the final SNF will be Ravens/Bengals or Jets/Dolphins depending on the standings.

I feel like I've been the biggest Dolphins detractor on the board so I was ready.

Still though, to actually miss the playoffs would kinda require them to totally implode in on themselves.

I don't put losing to the Chargers past them, and iirc, they have the Bills the week after. Not saying they'll miss the playoffs, but it's very possible.

The Dolphins are.. Actually in some trouble if they lose to the Chargers. Assuming they also lose to Buffalo the next week, there's actually a sizeable chance a loss to the Jets on week 18 outright eliminates them.

Actually if they drop that game there's a sizeable chance that Jets/Dolphins week 18 is for the final playoff seed in the AFC.

Unless the Chargers lose to the Broncos, which could make both clinch before the game even happens.

And it IS the Chargers...

There are people out there still convinced Jimmy G is a good QB, so I'm sure someone will sign him.

They're in position to put some building blocks around Fields, which is significant because he's basically willing them to almost win all of these games. He's still got some things to clean up of course, but I haven't been this excited about a Bears QB since...........ever. Go 3-14, get the #2 overall pick, and either trade it for a boatload of picks or go after Anderson/Carter.

Rodgers will be gone soon.

I hope baker will get another shot somewhere, I think his browns days are closer to who he actually is. He did himself no favors but carolina turned out to be a crappy place for him to land and wilks clearly wasn't interested in playing him.

I think Baker can work in the right system, but he needs talent around him. He can't carry a bad team.
