i like that peach seemingly isn't a damsel in distress. if anything it looks more like they're going to rescue luigi

I'd think there's considerably less pressure in voice acting Peach than Mario or Luigi, whose voices are so distinctive and established. Peach not being a damsel in distress was never in doubt considering she's the only major female character.

Mario being a fish out of water character is still a pretty bizarre choice to me. I remain skeptical because I'll never trust Illumination, but no matter what, it seems clear this won't be a complete disaster. Probably just a cute movie following safe story beats, and that's okay.

Mario seems less bad in this trailer imo less overtly Chris Pratt but that might just be because Luigi also seems bad so it's less glaring.

Miyamoto finally correcting the sins of the British and making DK look like he does on Donkey Kong 94, the way he should have always looked

Felt like they're advertising a sequel in the second trailer for the first film.
Luigi saying he doesn't know everyone with a mustache who wears a hat with the first letter of their name on it, Peach saying there's a lot of "galaxies" out there.

the comment of galaxies definitely got me thinking a Rosalina tease

I read this as more of a joke about 'Why would you think we know each other just because we are incredibly similar' rather than a Wario reference.

It was very safe and why I loved it

So pretty much everything from Super Nintendo World from the Universal parks is represented. So expect to see a Donkey Kong minecart sequence in this movie.

They still have Mario barely talking through 2 trailers lol, maybe that'll be the schtick? Would be a better way of handling Chris Pratt voicing.

Miyamoto supervised the redesign of DK in DKC. He even suggested the tie!

This looks good but man I just do not jive with "Illumination humor" because this is definitely full of it.

Yeah Illumination is a bad studio imo, but this movie at least looks like it has a lot of fan service for Mario fans, and as much as we want it made for us it's still a very heavy handed kid movie.

Do any of you feel maybe now is a good time to consider updating the looks of the characters in the games too? While their looks varied wildly in the 80s and early 90s, the current designs have kinda been locked every since 1995/1996 with not much variation at all.

Now with Miyamoto being like "This is Donkey Kong now" I wonder if that rumored DK game the mario team has been working on is going to use this updated look

i'm not sure if nintendo is as into multi-media brand consistency and synergy as much as sega is with Sonic. doesn't seem to be a priority for them but maybe that will change soon?

I feel like the character designs are pretty sharp as is. I don't know what they'd do to change them that people wouldn't hate.
