I remember I had put a $100 deposit to preorder one from Toys R Us. I arrived at the store about 10 minutes after they opened, and they had sold them all. Fucking bastards.

I didn't end up getting one until almost two months later, and I needed to sit out in front of an EB Games for 3 hours before they opened in the January cold.

I remember being disappointed that they changed the name of the console a few months before launch from Nintendo Revolution to Nintendo Wii, lmao.

That sounds like it sucked, almost as though that particular Toys'R'Us store did not know the meaning of the word, "pre-order".

I'll agree on bowling, but target golf was definitely better than tennis, IMO.

Target has the same issue, when you "pre-order" a game from them, they give you a card that you are supposed to give to the store clerk on release day. If they sell out of the game before you give them the card, you are SOL.

Had that problem with Breath of the Wild on Wii U, ended up going to the Best Buy a couple minutes down the road and picking it up off the shelf.

I was earning points from doing surveys that could then convert to a gift card. I think that's what I used to buy the first Wii. Later I interned at a computer repair shop that had accumulated 3 more of them that I could take.

Revolution was the codename for the project and was never intended to be the real name

The employees probably bought the preorders.

I pretty much accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get a Wii that year, but I was SUPER hyped for TP so I had my heart set on getting the Gamecube version.

The Gamecube version came out almost an entire month after the Wii version... Which was really annoying but whatever. I remember how much of a pain it was trying to find a Gamecube copy, but I did finally find a lone copy at a Kmart a few days after christmas. No wonder the Gamecube version is so much more valuable now...

I didn't actually get a Wii until like a year later.

I remember that I actually had heard of it until the day before it came out. I was working my job at Target, and saw some of my friends from school playing around. They asked if I was waiting for the new system. I told them I was working. They said I could get in line after work, though. And I said the line would probably be long. But they had a plan, apparently. They made a list. And all I had to do was put my name on the list. It was so people didnt have to stand in the same spot all night. People had brought games, and would form group to play multiple stuff like on the DS and everything. So, I put my name on the list. I think I was #4. And then more people started showing up. In the end, I called my other friends to let them know. I also asked my mom for some extra money. Cause I only had so much. She also brought me a chair and blanket. The first friends helped with my job a little (cart attendant), and found a toaster someone had left. And then kept it. And a bunch of people had their parents buy bread. Lots of people made toast. I even went to a diner with friends, and brought back butter and jam for them

When the store was about to open, everyone lined up in order according to the list. My mom also got there. And then, my early-co-workers were there to give the people in line hot cocoa and popcorn, IIRC And we got the Wii. There were like 63, IIRC Its a nice memory Though, my manager did wonder why I was late this morning. Im not sure if she recognized me when she gave my the hot cocoa
