Trivia: The chapter name "Solo" (the one with the priests you need to shove) is poorly localized. It should be parsed as a musical solo, in reference to Lillia's fate, but I don't think many people make that connection on their own. Something like "A Lonely Song" would have been better.

I think the same person who answered that also fielded a question about why there are unrelated chapters named "A Strange Land" (ravens on the ship) and "Strange Lands" (Daeins with rocks) but I don't recall the answer.

If I recall correctly, one trick you can do to minmax your odds in the BK fight is to run Ike with Adept/Wrath rather than Aether. Alondite and Ragnell normally null crits, but Wrath gets around that for some reason. Still, the best thing to say about the duel's design is that you can skip it.

And I'd say that if you want fairly well balanced difficulty that isn't too brutal, Conquest Hard and FE12 Maniac are both very good in different ways. Both are still challenging by series standards while still taking it noticeably easier on you than their incredibly punishing Lunatic modes.

Yeah as much as I shit on Fates, Conquest Hard is a very good level of difficulty.

Then you got lucky. The fight is 100% RNG. Even with capped Ike + Aether, if Aether doesn't activate enough times in a row while BK gets Luna, you just lose.

Path of Radiance has my favorite core cast of any FE game, although Three Houses is a strong contender

I wish I liked Three Houses story and gameplay more because I agree it has a really great cast. I don't know if I'll ever replay it again after having finished all 4 routes, because my god the pacing of that game is aaaaawful. The Monastery stuff is such a slog after the first time or two when you just wanna get to the next map.

PoR is probably my actual favorite game overall. It's certainly the one I've replayed the most. It definitely has faults, but its at least solid even in the parts it doesn't excel at. Radiant Dawn would beat it if it was more replayable and had supports, but as it is I'd put it below both PoR and Thracia.

And with one last reminder of how bad the handful of voiced lines in this game are, finished!

I knew vaguely that I really liked this game from my past, but its an entirely different beast in the context of a series playthrough. In stark contrast to the out there nature of FE4 and FE5, Radiant Dawn is a very simplistic entry thats just fantastic on the essentials and just plain great.

Being the first 3D game its obviously going to be the worst aged aesthetically, but I really like the overall design and how much bright, popping color there is. Even when the game hard pivoted back to anime again for Awakening, theres still more of a muted tone to the overall color pallet in comparison to something like Path of Radiance, even if the actual outfits only get more and more exotic.

Strongest aspect is definitely the story and characters, which may be one of my most consistently enjoyable crews overall. Ike is an excellent lord.

If I ranked each of those separately, the list would be very different each time. As an aside, I've played every game in the series at least twice (barring Three Houses if you count playing it twice as doing the same route twice, I've only done each route once), some quite a few more.

My ranking list is honestly just Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn clearly at the top, and everything else is mostly interchangeable. Those games are the complete packages of story, music, and gameplay. Everything else has too many demerits in certain categories.

I have yet to play FE4 or FE5 though, which I suspect I'd appreciate. Remakes please.

Edward is going beast mode. He's already rank B sword. Just needs a hat more speed to consistently double. I'm assuming weapon triangle comes with a speed penalty, since Leanardo can't double what Edward does, except he DOES double Soldiers while Ed can't.

Micaiah getting some solid level up so far, level 6 now and she's hit magic every time.

Hasn't happened outside of the tutorial yet, but can't believe they let mages bop people on the head.

The character portraits in RD are probably the best in the series. I really like its art style.

I was mistaken and she's at level 7, and her speed is at 10, so that's...3 times she's hit it, it looks like. I'm sure the growth rate isn't actually 50%, lol.

If healers can counterattack with a staff bop now....does that mean once they promote they won't auto equip their tome for a counterattack? And Mist, if she works the same, wouldn't auto equip her sword?

Radiant Dawn is good but SoV is hard to beat.

I should really give Ike's games another go once I'm able to dig my Wii out storage. Both the games as a whole and it's cast are more or less at the bottom of my personal rankings, which I'm well aware are an almighty outlier of an opinion, especially on this board, so there must be something I just wasn't seeing or getting at the time I played them. Maybe I'm subconsciously associating them with things going on in life at the time, I don't know. I'm in the second half of a Birthright Lunatic atm and if anything it's just confirming how much more I prefer Conquest over it.

Correct.

If you somehow have a high strength healer, it's not as bad as you think, because staff counterattack is ludicrous crit (and I forget if this is where staves provide self-heal benefits at the start of turn while holding them started)

None of them have a Mt stat though, so go by the old adage of "if your healers are being hit you probably lost."

Yeah it's pretty much only downside, I never found a way to make it work for me at all. I think it also eats a staff use, which is terrifying once you get good staves.

Taken together I think PoR/RD have my favorite FE story. And I don't think it's close. Granted I haven't played anything below FE6. If I take everything together, FE7 will always be my favorite. Nostalgia simply cannot be beat...but Haar makes a good case as my favorite FE character.

I think Elincia is the only one who can make it work, and even then it's not worth it since Amiti is so good.

I'm surprised you're getting a good Edward. He always seems to turn out disappointing for me. Nolan's the only one of the early Dawn Brigade I find worth using in the long run.

His bases suck but his growths look to be excellent now that I actually browsed them, so it looks like it's pure luck of the draw.

Yeah that green-haired girl (Merin? Would be funny if it got translated as Merlin) is one of the only female character designs I like so far. The ninja looking girl just before her in the trailer is good too

I think we CAN assume Lyn is granting the bows here though, because while a Sword/Bow user is believable....A light magic/staff/bow user is not, lol. So the earlier girl is probably a sowed master or a hero.

Man FE Engage just looks so visually unappealing, which is a shame because it's obviously polished. That art style is impossible for me to get past though.

Did we ever find out if that leak that said Gust was behind the character designs was true? I can believe it, since this is kinda the cutesy animr style from the Atelier games.

Gust is supposedly working in the game and models, but the character designer themselves is Vtuber creator Mika Pikazo.

Mika usually does really good designs imo, but I do agree that most of the characters aren't designed well. It's not in her usual style so that's probably why. I imagine Nintendo had her try to tone it down and she doesn't do well with that or something. Most of them are still 'okay', anyway, just not great.

The worst designs are definitely the ones she's toned down too far, though. A lot of the early game characters they revealed from the start aren't very interesting.

Oh abso-freaking-lutely. Look up Hakos Baelz for a Vtuber she designed and Sei Shounagon for the FGO character she designed.

She does very color-explosion, tons-of-patterns, whatever the subgenre of bright and colorful Gothic Lolita style is called stuff.
