Our Path of Radiance journey continues.

After the last several games I've played, very surprised that resistance is a stat that goes up sometimes.

Blessed Boyd has already hit level 16 before starting chapter 11 and has received 2 levelups with a full stat sweep. This is my son.

In a stark contrast to my earlier comments about indecisiveness, I saw level 2 Mist and said fuck that, pumped her up to 10, and gave her that master seal I just got. HORSE. Second coming of best girl L'Arachel incoming.

Also said screw it and hit Nephenee up to 13. I already sacrificed using Mia dammit.

Knives...aren't actually a weapon type? I can't forge a better one for Volke, and there's no rank there....ooof.

Time sensitive chapter, think I crushed it. I finished the same turn the Black Knight showed up.

I don't think there's any way to both recruit Zihark and not kill the militia, unless it's like...use an untransformed Laguz to do it? Or recruit him on the same turn you seize.

Keiren is gonna need some leveling for sure.

Nephenee tore it UP with just a stock Iron Lance.

You'd have to be a total idiot to do that so Ike screams like an idiot.

Actually that interaction that 99% of players will avoid has a lot of edge cases.

If you fight BK and he misses:
Black Knight: ...Oh? You avoided my blow. Will you be so lucky next time?
Ike: !!

If you fight BK, survive, and then clear the stage:
Mist: Ike, you stupid fool! Fighting a knight as strong as that...You idiot! I was...so scared...
Ike: Im sorry, Mist...

If you use cheats to kill BK, the game doesn't bother to account for it though.

BTW, mobility is great for Valkyrie Mist, but I have her a + 5 Mt Iron Sword and...yeah that's getting nowhere lol. I'm assuming there's got to be a magic sword you can get later I should be building rank towards, because otherwise I don't know why you'd even bother.

Shoutout to the Sage promote in Path of Radiance, which gives your mages the option to use either Knives or Staves, player's choice, without addressing their pitiful Strength stat whatsoever.

I wouldn't even bother with raising her sword rank and just feed her the arms scrolls you get. It's not like anyone else really needs them with how fast you can get WEXP in this game.

Shoutouts to the prepromoted Sages who join with knives instead of staves. I guess they saw how OP Pent and Saleh were and thought these Sages needed to be nerfed somehow.

I used Sothe for data transfer purposes once and it was fine I guess but I mean...not worth it at all.

Sothe's bases in Radiant Dawn are around his level 20 averages in Path of Radiance, so it's not even worth training him.

It takes more with each level, but a lot of weapons give 2 wexp per use. Though if Mist is doubling with an iron sword but not with a steel sword, there's no functional difference.

In fact, it can even be WORSE to train him if you're going to transfer, because unlike every other unit from PoR when you transfer, Sothe ports all of his stats over instead of just getting a bonus for caps. So if Sothe gets growth screwed for whatever reason (as unlikely as that may be), you actually can end up with a *worse* Sothe in Radiant Dawn.

It's not amazingly likely because of Blossom being his skill, but its possible.

That was...an odd map. Feels like I could have fielded like 5 units, really no way to control the flow. Birds sure do have some fucking speed.

I definitely see why Soren needs some pumping up, he couldn't 2 rounds them with ElWind.

The easiest way to make sure she doesn't die is just shove Ike in range to recruit her turn 1

You can indeed stealth the prison rescue in FE9, and you get a big sack of BEXP if you do. But "stealth mission" and "Fire Emblem" do not go together. I'm impressed that the game designers made the idea workable, and I am also glad that they let you skip it and turn the chapter into a fight with no real consequence (combat EXP compensates for the lost BEXP).

Now if only Revelation's stealth chapter did the same...

If I recall correctly, the BK is progress based and not turn based. He shows up the turn after you aggro the boss (by moving into his range) or some such.

The latter. I want to say FE9 uses the same rank breakpoints as the GBA games.

To be fair, this game becomes a joke once Jill and Marcia get going, so that is one of the harder maps by virtue of the fact that Jill isn't a goddess of death yet.

Note that we specified Hard mode! The difference between PoR Normal and PoR Hard is crazy.

Eh I don't know that I'd say it's crazy different. I think PoR Hard mode is really easy, on par with like Eliwood Hard Mode for FE7 in that its barely a Hard Mode at all.

There are just a few maps that are slightly trickier than others and that can be one of them. Especially the 'gotcha!' that is the Ravens seizing the defend point despite explicitly being there only to steal.

Makalov may be one of the most unappealing units I've ever seen.

Underleveled. Mediocre stats. Standard growths. A class I already have in plentiful quantity with more appealing units. Lame character design. Terrible personality. A lame skill. No memeworthy stats.

What a fucking nobody.

Not to mention, if you want a mounted unit that's stuck with a bad weapon type, Astrid just joined and she's much easier to BEXP up to a usable level because of Paragon.

Makalov is a huge loser but for I kind of like him being a huge loser.

I used him in an ironman run once and he turned out pretty good.

Astrid has been fucking killing it, though I did give her a maxed Mt Steel Bow. I realized she also got a buff to her Bexp and went all out. I'm also pretty sure her levelups have been pretty great.

The story has been so good. Notably better than the same old dark dragon shit we get so much.

Astrid is definitely strong, and Makalov is definitely not.

Paladin is just such a good class in PoR that even Makalov is decent if you use him.

You should give the knight ward Astrid comes with to any knight character you use BEXP on (or are just going to use, generally) because it increases Speed growth by 30% when equipped.

Not sure I get what they're logic was for forging costs.

Dropping weight is incredible important for some characters but it costs almost nothing.

Why does increasing weight and lowering damage, crit, or hit cost money instead of taking it away?

Why is it cheaper to bump up stats the better the weapon is? It costs almost nothing to pump up a steel weapon, but basic bitch times can break your bank at just +2 mt.

It's so that there is never a reason for you to intentionally downgrade a weapon to save money. Forging is suppose to explicitly cost money to customize a weapon, basically. There is actually a point to increasing weight, though, as it can make some characters only hit a single time instead of doubling which can be preferable in some cases (setting up kills, turtling harder enemies that threaten your front liners so they don't kill themselves by killing too many enemies, etc).

I have no idea for the rest of your thought, though.
