La Danse Macabre (Lich Yard) [] ARISE WITHIN YOU there's a lot of combinations where i'd have gone for minecraft here, this isn't one of them, but it's honestly still a fairly close match. match 2 is two tracks that i do not have particularly strong opinions on. think i'm going to be quick to abstain when i consider a match too close this year. atelier shallie is confidently my preferred soundtrack/set of the two, but i'm not confident i would select aquamarine of these two at all match 3 was a no brainer, but not because i hated drifting soul or anything. if my threshold had been less strict PARASITE EVE was basically next up on my list of potential supports...with this being possibly my favorite from its set! hope it does well in snubs. i can't get enough of this era of synth sound tendencies, and this dvi-core is exactly my jam. ARISE WITHIN YOU easily my favorite track of all 6 today (i spent all my writeup energy on the noms phase so this is nowhere near as verbose as my typical tendencies. tbh i'm not sure how fully attentive to this contest i'll be able to be so do not be alarmed if i disappear) ... Mall Rush Hour ARISE WITHIN YOU Not much to say about match 1. Both are good. God, I hope Rush Hour wins this so much. Aquamarine's last minute is amazing but the rest of the build up didn't hit me. Mall Aquamarine ARISE WITHIN YOU almost didn't notice it was starting today danse okay, mall okayer was going to leave a remark that aquamarine could've passed itself off as an aria the animation song until the end the second match is interesting because they're both rather plain songs with neat aspects packed onto them. caps match hype (actually though, parasite eve is honestly one of the sets in snubs that i'm most excited to see, though drifting soul's inclusion on the xc2 set is one of the ones i remembered most from noms (for good reasons)) ... La Danse Macabre is a super catchy banger that's a bit marred by the fact that the Shovel Knight OST has a brickwall master (i.e. it's too loud). Still really great. Mall is pleasant, though it's one of the weaker Minecraft songs in the set. So Shovel Knight gets the edge in this particular matchup. Y'alls are easy to bore if you think the first 3 minutes of Aquamarine are dull. Really nice vocals, melody, guitar, and piano. The second half is obviously very cool too with the addition of the e-guitar. Probably the best song today thus far. Rush Hour is fun, though I wish there was more to it progression-wise. DRIFTING SOUL has some pretty fantastic strings. They're definitely the highlight here. Jen Bird's vocals and the e-guitar is really nice as well. The string outro is a huge highlight for me (one that they unfortunately omitted in the violin version). ARISE WITHIN YOU is definitely the weakest song of the day for me. Nothing really captivates me about it. Fairly easy votes for me today. La Danse Macabre (Lich Yard) Aquamarine ARISE WITHIN YOU Match 1 is already starting off pretty close, but I gotta give it to Kaufman's signature style for giving me the edge I need to go for La Danse Macabre. Aquamarine is very nice and picks up wonderfully in the second half. Rush Hour is neat - I've always had a small soft spot for songs that go for raw energy and the kind of fast-paced rhythm like this does - but I do wish there were more to the melody than what it has. I'm sure there's some kind of emotional backstory that a song like Drifting Soul would fit perfectly for, but as is (as well as me hearing it for the first time) I'm not immediately attached to it and don't feel emotional in any way because of it; it's okay. Arise Within You is such a great theme, the synths and beat are very addicting to me. Makes me wish Yoko Shimomura would take a break from her distinct style and go back to experimenting with stuff like this. ... Copied to Clipboard!

la danse macabre aquamarine arise within you unlimited supports = my supports were bound to face off with each other sooner or later. but already in round 1! haha. i was also dreading this sort of match - a weaker song from an ost i love going up against a stronger one from an ost i also love both very good. i adore kaufman's way of adding so much character just in the way he arranges and composes his music. retro (or faux retro in this case) stuff isn't always my favourite, but when it is able to add character and story to the music, it is stellar. i am currently fixating a lot on minecraft related stuff :) mall makes me so happy whenever i listen to it. i love the rhythm to this piece. it is a very "crisp" song that kind of tingles in my ears. aquamarine starts out strong to me tbh. yeah, slow vocals, but her voice is very beautiful! i find the latter half to be a slightly mixed bag. the backing instruments are a little too strong for me when paired with the vocalist's soft voice, but the guitar solo on the other hand is *chef kiss* with the backing choir. i forgot how "strange" rush hour is. it's a very busy song but also very mesmerising, weirdly relaxing at the same time. this, i was familiar with beforehand, sims music tends to be a bit of a comfort food to me, even if it is from such a cursed game as this lol drifting soul is good, but man arise within you is phenomenal. fuck you @ square enix for your parasite eve nft bullshit i want this game BACK. ...
