As a hot piece of ass I gotta say it does have its perks. Women do look at me like Im a piece of meat sometimes and I gotta wag my finger, but the attention is nice.

Being super smart has diminishing returns the higher the IQ.

Good looking people have a huge advantage in life.

Intelligence is associated with a lot of mental disorders, while attractiveness is associated with confidence and success.

If you are into late 90's, early 00s comedy its pretty good. Not his best movie, but in my personal top 3.

who is "his?" you mean the director? not sure who's in it or who made it except that hurley is in it.

seems like the sort of glaring homophobic pothole that was commonplace is subpar comedies/dramadies from the late 90s and early 00s

I'll take being a trophy wife to some rich dude who treats me decent and makes me happy over being smart.

I'm fine with my average intelligence, so I'd rather be one of those pretty girls instead of ugly and plain.

For the sake of longevity, intelligence wins.

I am extremely intelligent, and honestly, it's overrated.

"Ignorance is bliss" is kind of a truism - the smarter you are, the more cynical and bitter you tend to be (there've actually been psychological studies that prove this). Because you're more aware of the world around you and all of the myriad ways things can and do go wrong. But if you're an idiot it's a lot easier to just focus on the moment and not get hung up on stuff.

So I'd potentially be willing to straight up trade intelligence for model-level good looks. But since the poll says we'd hypothetically keep our current looks/intelligence, there's literally no downside to picking appearance.

Unless the intelligence option makes me so intelligent that I pretty much invent the cure for cancer tomorrow and parley it into a multi-billion dollar fortune. But even then I'd probably just be miserable and even more of a bastard than I am now.

Yes, that's the movie he was referencing. Though it's actually a remake of an even older movie.

The Brendan Fraser/Elizabeth Hurley movie is fairly fun if you're just looking for a bit of silly comedy.

Except that's not really how it works in the movie at all. Basically, when he makes the wish, he becomes the gay dude version of himself... but he still has the mind and the memories of the average schlub version of himself (which is pretty much true of every wish he makes). So he doesn't want to be gay (and arguably isn't). Because he still likes girls/the specific girl he's been chasing after the entire time.

In other words, you're vastly overthinking things. Like the sort of people who point out that movies like Back to the Future or Timecop (or Hot Tub Time Machine, or Days of Future Past, or...) are kind of horror movies because the characters we've been following through the whole movie may now have much better lives, but they don't remember any of it - and to the perspective of everyone else in the world, they've just had a neurotic breakdown and forgotten their entire lives.

Sometimes people just need to go with the flow and accept the intent of a story instead of dissecting it down to its core and reading tons of implications into it.

Underrated post

Just being intelligent doesn't mean you're hardworking enough to make it into something tangible like money, a nice job or position, or fame. You need the natural work ethic/discipline/conscientiousness/grit/perseverence/etc whatever the f you want to call it + motivation/feeling of purpose to make it into something.
