I'm in the middle of it and it's such a slog to get through. How did they make Batman so boring? All the bad guys are just a bunch of crooked old white-haired city officials. How captivating. And the Riddler...what the hell is he wearing? He looks like some kid who stole his father's windbreaker to try and cosplay as a ninja turtle. And then you have the scene where Batman zips up into a flying squirrel suit to glide off a building. It looked so ridiculous. And to top it off, he hits his head on an underpass and plops down on a sidewalk like a piece of luggage. I'm not even sure if that was played for laughs or not. And what's this movie's obsession with shots peering through glass? Windows and windshields. Is this an attempt to be artsy? And there's so many weird cuts and camera angles. They were just trying way too hard.

None of the characters in this have any presence, and that's really what ruins it. Nolan's films and even Tim Burton's films are masterpieces compared to this atrocity.

I never saw it, but Robert Pattinson as Batman instead of Christian Bale just sounds bad.

It's a slow burn noir film.

People either love that kind of thing or hate it.

There are some really fun cooky adam west-esque films from the Burton times...

Or a more action packed and still grounded trilogy from Nolan... why not go and try them out?

Wanna get nuts? Go for the Schumacher film.

Nah, all jokes aside, I think it's a great movie, but as Yazarogi said, it's a slow burn detective film. Less emphasis on action and set pieces, more emphasis on atmosphere and tone. Personally, it's the kind of Batman film I've always wanted to see where he's doing actual detective work.

Robert Pattinson was a much better Batman than Christian Bale IMO

Bale was a better Bruce Wayne, but Pattinson also didn't do much Bruce Wayne shit in the movie

It was competently made but any individual part was pretty crap. Seems like WB knew Batman would make money regardless so they just let Reeves do whatever he wanted. Should have had more of a leash.

Absolutely awful film.

It was ok and forgettable and i thought riddler was lame and the ending was dogshit.

I agree that it's bad but not for any of the reasons you mentioned.

It's been a while and I don't really remember all the issues I had with it.

I think they were (spoilers?):
Riddler could have exposed everything/everyone from the start, he could have killed his target (I forget the name) on many occasions throughout the film, Bruce while young is a bit too old to STILL say "YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD" to Alfred.
Plus Bruce should have died a few times throughout the film but w/e.

I liked it but it definitely could have cut at least a half hour, probably more.

I loved it.

They could have added an extra hour of Batman wandering around in the cold rain and it would have been even better.

Pattinson is a great Bruce/Batman. I liked it but also agree it could've been shorter, took me 3 viewings to complete it.

I wanted to like it but thought it was really bad.

Oh, I will also say that some choices were just super dumb. The wingsuit was one of them. I know that's what they actually look like, but come on, it's a comic book movie. Loosen it up a little.

The worse one IMO was the Batmobile just revving its engine for about a full minute while everyone else just stared at it. And this might just be me, but that car chase was just fucking terrible. I seem to remember not really knowing who was who or what was happening.

I enjoyed it. Was a great noir detective film. A change to what we usually see nowadays.

I dont get why people say he does detective work in it. He solves a few riddles quickly but misses the biggest one for plot reasons to set up the third act.

Its hard to get a good mystery and detective work to fit into a movie time frame. It needs more time to grow. And with a Batman film there is other ground to cover on top of that.

Overall the movie is just Ok and it was really obvious that the script has problems. It wouldnt surprise me if they were forced to use the Riddler instead of Hush. Because the movie just about follows a form of that storyline.

Both Bale and Batfleck did detective work too but didnt beat the audience over the head with it. And both did it more convincing than the riddles in The Batman

Sherlock Holmes is an example of detective work. He, himself, finds clues at the crime scene and then investigates the leads coming from them.

This Batman gets his clues handed to him from the Riddler and, essentially, works FOR the Riddler throughout the movie. Going wherever the Riddler wants him to.

He's basically Riddler's temp worker.

I mean honestly that is what his character came off as.

Like him creeping on Selina. Speaking about her. In Nolen's batman I said. There was no reason for Batman to like or even keep interacting with her. In this movie , there is no reason that she helps him.

That part I liked, he dresses up as a bat and punches people every night. Mental instability is kinda part and parcel lol.

But you've got to be in the mood for a slow burn.
Although it falls apart at the end and falls into cliche territory. The first 3/4 is really strong.

Also I hated that they got a good looking dude to play penguin, hire short fat actors dammit .

Bruce Wayne should never scream at Alfred that he isnt his real father just to hurt him.

Also alway have this issue with movie Batman. But he had to to have killed people in that chase

It was a slow burn that was getting good and then the last 45 minutes felt like a needless add on haphazardly attached to the end of the film to ridiculously add to the stakes.

Thought it was very good.

I still put Bales run over it, but well see how the new run shapes up. Only one film in.

I thought it was pretty bad for a superhero movie, and only ok as a "noir" movie.

No, I don't think solving a few riddles counts as detective work, but he did do some investigating and intel gathering so people saying he didn't do any detective stuff are wrong.

I enjoyed it but it doesn't surpass the Nolan films to me.

I finally finished it and yeesh. This Batman really sucks at combat. First he takes a bomb to the face. He knows it's going to detonate. He knows he isn't getting any answers from the guy. And instead of shielding himself or turning around, he just eats the bomb at point-blank range. Half his face has no protection whatsoever, so I don't know how his jaw didn't get blown off. And then during the climax, there's a goon with a shotgun pointed at him and he just casually walks up to him and eats that shot, which completely subdues him. Where was the plan there? I thought Batman utilized stealth and wits when fighting.

Also, how did all those Riddler wannabes even get on that platform? Was there seriously no checkpoint to catch a gang of rifle-wielding nutjobs? They just waved them on through? And even if they somehow snuck in, shouldn't there be some security present during a high-profile inauguration? They were literally perched right above the stage for the whole world to see. And Batman had to blow up the entire ceiling just to get the drop on them? Completely disregarding the amount of rubble and debris that would fall onto the crowd below? I've seen the Hulk make quieter entrances than that.

The movie manages to nail the atmosphere, but that's all I can really commend it for. The characters and writing are just way off.
