I mean I understood going in it would be heavily in favour of story stuff, but I really wanna punch some floating halloween lanturns and not just talk about people getting volleyballs spiked in their faces.

How far into the game are you? The first 5 or so hours are pretty bad in this regard. But if you're a decent ways in by now it doesn't get any better honestly.

Hes not even got past the first dungeon or got to the full horrible truth about the coach.

There is a fast forward button if you want to skip the dialogue.

Persona series is kinda notorious with their long ass intro. It get more tedious with replay.

You know, I thought Joker and For Reals awakenings were kind of meh, bit damn Ang Takapakkis was really good.

If you like persona but want more gameplay in your jrpg then just pick up any of the main line SMT games. The same monsters, the same press turn system, but without the dating sim and with a much heavier emphasis on gameplay versus story.

Oh you're still at the very beginning lol. Yeah the intro is cutscene heavy, but you'll be able to explore the dungeon more very soon.

Apparently school weeks in Japan used to be Monday through Saturday, but they changed Saturdays to be "optional" in the early 2000's. So the creators of Persona would have been students back when that was still a thing.

And the chalk throwing is an anime trope lol

Persona games in general have story and gameplay segments in huge spurts. Especially when you decide to finish dungeons in a single day. If this loop doesn't appeal to you then you should quit playing the game.

It's always going to be story heavy, but like others have said it's especially bad in the lead up to the first dungeon due to all the exposition and set up.

Its not the same, it is harder in SMT. Persona doesnt use the press turn system, it uses the far easier one more system. Press turn effects both sides equally, while one more favors you. Also press turn has far more severe consequences for having an attack nullifed/repeled/drained.

Ryuji definitely had a way better awakening tho. So his opinion is off.

The amount of activities you can choose and the ansolutely tiny amount of free time you have to do activities is honestly kind of paralyzing.

It depends on where you are in the game. I just finished September and its probably the worst month for this, between end of summer, Hawaii trip (which were both nice, but wouldve been better not in such a large block of dialogue) and lead up to the next palace

I had no problems cheating on school and the crosswords, because theres so few answers Id know on my own just because the game is steeped in Japanese culture.

Actually I cheat on confidant answers too, because its just a waste of your time if you dont.

Lol I had this idea too, but the objective is what will appear in the top right of the screen with the amount of days you have left

I remember this palace taking multiple trips (by design) so Id not drag your feet too much on it

I think the only class question Ive gotten wrong so far is which period Yoshitsune flourished in and I think I aced the exam, though I havent gotten it back yet. I think its a pretty fun way to put the classroom into the gameplay, though the rewards seem very little worth.

Also Kawakami seems like kind of a terrible teacher.

Is it just me or is the velvet room menu and its sub menus incredibly clunky? I feel like choices that should take me five minutes ends up taking twenty because I have to go back and forth checking stats, seeing if I need to register a persona before fusing it, leaves the menu allrogether to go to thetriangle menu because I have too many personas and need to delete one, wasting time because searching is stupid and bad.

I dont even bother registering Personas, because they are extremely expendable (due to outgrowing them by the next palace). The only ones I reuse are treasure demons. Even the early ones are good fusion fuel for a while

You should register them for future fusion chains.

They can be summoned regardless of whether they are registered if youve had them as a mask at any point. So I dont really see the point of registering, except maybe before you get access to blank cards (and duplication).

I feel like Persona 5 improved a lot in that respect, over previous games. Persona 4 would have you cook Japanese dishes, expecting you to know what the ingredients were. Fans made fun of that lol

Persona games are VNs with some gameplay, you'll usually spend more time in cutscenes and talking than dungeons, unless you're trying to min max a set of personas for extra bosses.

Are they so much harder? I am considering it for when I get Royal. I think the 2nd palace boss was harder than most bosses in the game even at normal

Dating sim with 15-16 year olds

Normal mode is easy after the first Palace (besides a few choice encounters like the 5th Palace boss). Im either doing Hard or Merciless whenever I replay this again

I don't think most bosses were that difficult. The 2nd palace boss was a bit of a challenge, but not too much of an issue once you figure out what to do. 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th palace bosses weren't that difficult either. Can't speak for the remaining bosses though as I haven't reached them yet. That said it also probably depends on what Personas you have. Like having the DLC personas can make those fights much easier.

The 5th palace boss can go straight to hell though.

Took me two hours but I beat the second palace boss (RIP Mona getting exp, though). First phase became easy at the end, but I dont think I truly ever learned the correct method for the second phase and my god it was painful.

Wouldnt have been quite so bad if you could restart boss encounters. Sometimes actually dying after giving up an attempt took forever.

2nd Palace Boss is one of the best designed fights in the game (on either vanilla or royal). It tests your use of game mechanics without feeling like bullshit. The 5th Palace Boss on Royal is complete bullshit and terribly designed.
