This is actually the second time Simpsons has done Death Notethe first was in their comics like 15 years ago. In that one Bart was Light, Lisa was L, and Krusty was Ryuk

The only live action Death Note I've seen is the English Netflix one. It's hard to imagine this Simpsons parody being worse than that piece of shit, but modern Simpsons might just find a way.

It is a lot more on the nose than I expected it to be. Is this just one episode? Introducing the Death Note rules, Lisa starting some sort of plan and then a showdown with an "L" seems like a lot to cover.

Is it really even valid to compare them at this point? Thats almost like comparing it to a Robot Chicken skit.

I kind of have good hopes for this.

I watched through all the Treehouse of Horrors in the past month. The last two weren't that bad. I think the quality of the show is on an upswing.

Sort of. The original anime was done by Madhouse. This short is done by DR Movie who does in-between animation for Madhouse including in the original Death Note.

DR Movie does/has done entire shows for Madhouse, including Kaiji. I'm not sure how much they did for Death Note, but I would assume entire episodes.

I think it would have made more sense for this to be the full length Halloween episode this year instead of the It parody. Perhaps having this be a full length episode would have taken up too much of the animation budget because it's done by a different animation studio?

I'm looking forward to this because Death Note isn't a recent series, so the writers will have had more time to come up with a creative twist on the source material. I'm guessing Milhouse will be L, and the rivalry between Light and L will have a romantic aspect to it.

Not to mention we've already seen 2 minutes from those clips. Plus she makes her first kill in between those clips.

MAN 7 minutes just isnt enough, we really needed more time with that, damn... well, I'll be watching Sunday for the first time in years, I guess.

If Bart was Light, Sideshow Bob could be L for a good reversal. Lisa has certainly been involved in that feud enough but she isn't his fixation. (Rakes. It's rakes.) Lisa could have been L due to her intelligence, idealism, and having a name that starts with L, but she makes some sense as Light too for the same reasons. I'd expect a "nerd" type as L, maybe Milhouse given his history with Lisa, or Martin as Light (if he could carry a whole segment as the main character).

Since it's only seven minutes, are we sure there will even be an L? Maybe the whole thing is Lisa trying to kill Mr. Burns.

Treehouse of Horror is still relatively popular in ratings, and I imagine they hope combining that with these viral videos will lead to more people to watch it and by association other episodes

last year I think they did a Parasite homage that also was pretty spread out?

The main VAs all get paid $300K per episode. The average anime episode costs $300K for 22 minutes. American animators get paid way better in general, too. I doubt this is any more expensive than typical Simpsons content.

This requires a lot of new character design and such too, but yeah with the VA cost it's prob not very different

Episode was pretty good. A bit shorter than I would have liked.

Thought the ending was nice.

That was great, the murder montage was hilarious

I liked it.

But the real star of the night was Simpsons World. All-time top tier ToH segment

Man, I haven't watched new episodes for probably close to 20 years and I'm pretty sure I still recognized like 90% of the references inn Simpsons World...!

Ditto on the hadn't watched a new episode of the Simpsons in like 18 years or something like that. That was actually pretty fantastic.

Yeah, Julie Kavner's voice has been going for a while and it's probably the saddest part of recent Simpsons (well, aside from the questionable quality of the show).

I liked this bit though! A few good gags - the cat hostage situation (and the fact that the cat immediately jumped into the box after being dropped), Mr. Burns dying 'in his sleep', the murder montage in general

Even if it's bad it will be mercifully shorter, so that makes it guaranteed to be better.

Anyone else notice that there was a shot where all the names of people Lisa killed were from Fighting Baseball (the one with Bobson Dugnutt, Sleve McDichael, Mike Sernandez, etc)

They should do an episode where Marge gets throat surgery or something so Julie doesnt have to do that voice anymore

I knew Marge's voice was gone but Mr Burns actually sounds like a decrepit old man now.
