I've been playing more. PC's such an awesome thing.

Fast forward <3 I was able to finish every Fire Emblem over two months because of that, and that was with life obligations~

I recently purchased a gaming laptop so I've been gaming more. Before that the gaming aspect of my life was pretty much dead.

Generally speaking, I fell off. But in recent months, I'm back.

I wouldn't say I'm playing less, but I would say that I'm more prone to dropping a game in favor of a different one if it's too annoying/tedious/difficult. Started to value my time/enjoyment more, I guess.

A little but only during work days that are really busy and there is a lot to do. Still have plenty of time to enjoy gaming, but I do have less time then before I had this career but I dont see that as a bad thing.

Rather have less time and have a successful career I enjoy then be in a shitty job with lots of gaming time.

I play different games now that i'm older.

I don't play competitive multiplayer games anymore, I play fewer games but put in more hours to each of them compared to buying a game, putting in 15 hours and never touching it again.

Yeah. Having a baby was the game changer for me. I used to be able to no-life Path of Exile and really loved the new league releases every few months. I would marathon it on the first few weekends and got into racing and taking advantage of the early market dynamics. Now its almost impossible to even play the game.

New league comes out this weekend and Ill be lucky if I can play an hour or two uninterrupted. I love the baby but it definitely changes things.

I know that but if you're aware of what's going on, how do you keep walking back into these crap, money stealing excuses for games?

Would you not be better off using the total spent as a stern reminder of a lesson you had to learn the hard way, that you shouldn't be playing that crap? It's better at looking at it and going Oh I'm already knee deep, might as well see if I can make it to waist deep.

PS2 is my favorite console in 2022.

Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain (2003) has more entertainment value than WWE 2k23 or whatever its called.

Because its too hard to quit. Its borderline addiction. Its pretty much gambling. If I dont pull the unit, I attempt to force it with money and a lot of times I chase dupes.

This month alone, I spent just under $600 and this is actually my lowest amount in the last 12 months according to BoA app.

Its not like i can give my account away since its linked to my appleid anyway

Yes because of pet responsibilities and spending time with friends/gf. Sometimes we play games together though. I also value sleep a lot more than in the past.

I imagine if I have kids I'll have very little time to game until they are older. I'll always come back to it though.

It is addiction. It's decently well documented that unusual quantities of in-game currencies take your mind away from the fact it's spending money in the first place, efforts to make f2p appear fair when it is in fact not are there to make the paid shortcuts all the more tempting, pity systems keep you spending by pretty much directly telling you that if you keep spending you'll get a good chance. Dailies make you come back, early spurts of progress condition you to long for that kind of rapid progress when your progress has plateaued and the temptation of paid shortcuts does the rest. Gacha games are the bottom of the barrel and they rely on addiction.

Are you even enjoying it? What fun is derived from repeatedly paying to spin the wheel? There are better formulas for a video game than I wonder what's in the box!!
These things you're getting aren't being in any way earned (You may work hard grinding the points but the luck is out of your hands) and there is no accomplishment here. You spin the wheel, find out how luck works and then in defiance you fall for the dev's trap and decide you're the sly one here by trying to brute force it.

What are these characters you're trying to collect and what compulsion does it sate when you get them? Getting 100%? Beating other people with P2W? A waifu? I want to know what you get out of this exchange.

I'm playing more, but less games overall.

I'm more than content sitting on Monster Hunter or Elden Ring/Souls games in general, or whatever little indie Roguelike I feel like for months at a time, where as I used to just play every new cool thing I could get my hands on.

This is how I feel. I don't play games as much as i used to anymore but when I do I like to play older games.

Back in my younger days i could play games all day long. Now as i got older i would be lucky to play for more than an hour. Hell i barely even finish them. I rather just watch games on YouTube.

The think is nowadays I probably have 2 hours per day to play video games after work (finish work at 6pm) 11pm-1am is my free time

on the weekends I have potentially more time to play games (eg staying up super late or waking up super early)

and it comes down to playing just the one game instead of multiple

and cod games are perfect for that short burst of gaming really for me

single player just gets too hard to complete over a long period of time - just lose interest

Unfortunately yes. First daughter born in 2018, second in 2020. I have a window of 2-3 hours after they go to bed, but usually I browse the internet or watch youtube videos during that time. I do have phases where I play more, but right now isn't one of them.
