This is all part of the right's goal of completely dissolving public education. They want the system to fail, for qualified teachers to leave the profession, and eventually replace it with for-profit indoctrination machines that churn out hyper-conservative laborers, soldiers, and voters. The best education will be reserved for those who have the means to pay for it.

Sounds like the movie The Substitute.

It is the implementation that will be problematical. I believe some vets would make good educators. I doubt the vets will be chosen based on how qualified they are.

I think it's a great idea. I know the shitbags that I had to deal with aren't trying to be a teacher. Plus its a government position that can go towards the 20yr retirement. We have a huge teacher shortage and funding problem already.

That said, my 4yr in the Army allowed me to go to college without and entry exam, and I could of been a Sherriff without going through their entry course.

The problem is teaching isn't something you can just shoehorn in people with no experience or training and expect to succeed. It's a recipe for disaster.

There's a teaching shortage and funding problem because there is no support from these government officials. Filling in people with no teaching background is going to make things worse.

It's not gonna work simply for the fact that all the other solutions to "solving" the teacher crisis have failed. They aren't trained. There is a lot more that goes in to teaching than just teaching from a book.

There's a need for (good effective) public schooling that private systems would be completely incapable of handling. The problem around the country is mostly just that states don't want to fund public schooling.

In Florida, it's very purposeful, DeSantis has literally said that this is a fight against woke culture. The average starting teacher salary is $40k, who the fuck would want to put up with the politicization of their profession for $40k?

Florida used to be PROUD of its public school system. It wasn't the best, but it was improving year by year. The NIMBYs used to be happy to voluntarily pay higher property taxes for better localized public schools. The switch to private schooling isn't an effort to make them more efficient, it's an explicit effort to make them more religious and conservative, to breed out tolerance and empathy.

I'm all for body positivity, but it's been my experience that the public nudity I have encountered was absolutely Florida education tier.

No you need a fundamental basis of pedagogy, first-hand experience in a classroom setting with established teachers mentoring you, and a program of fellow student-teachers. To say nothing of the extra learning of psychological and social dynamics to study.

A simple B.A. in whatever subject will not translate into a successful teaching career.
