Would you do it?

Debating doing this, one of my favorite artists, rarely visits the states.

That late I may just grab a hotel for the night but I'd probably do it either way.

if it's one of your favourite artists that rarely is in the country do it, but get a hotel for after the concert. check in before you go to the concert.

To add to this, I actually did something similar.

I drove from upstate NY to New Jersey (3-4 hour drive) to see a Kpop group.
I spent $600 total on tickets and hotel room for the night.
And it was worth it. Kind of once in a life time (especially since that group is now disbanded).

Would I? I have. It was great!

I also did the hotel thing because I didn't feel like driving across the Canadian border at 3 AM. It is just one night, so I would find the cheapest hostel you can to get a few hours of sleep at.

Pretty much. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but I also don't really care enough about concerts to put that kind of effort in. If you care enough to be considering it in the first place, it's probably going to be worthwhile for you, especially with the extra factors you're mentioning. Getting a hotel instead of driving all night is definitely going to be better, though. If nothing else, driving that late is going to be a safety concern.

Someone I talked to brought up the idea of staying in a hotel that was halfway between. Hotels nearby are like 400 a night

Did you go alone, how much did you love that group?

Not much different then they are other places, just less common because most people prefer motels/hotels.

I sprung for the one with a private bathroom/shower and it cost me like $40 for the night. But that was like 6 years ago, so account for inflation and all that.

Absolutely. Earlier this summer I drove 4 hours to see Paul McCartney (3~ hour show + I got there an hour early) then drove 4 hours back. Worth every minute.

I went with one other person and they're top 3 Kpop groups for me.
I love that group so much.
Not to mention, where I was sitting, they walked right past me in the audience so that was amazing.

I mean, it really depends on what you're willing to do to be there.
But I wouldn't, so I voted no.

Well... if it was certain very specific favorite artists of mine who either don't tour the U.S. at all or never tour at all period, yet now suddenly there was a once in a lifetime concert coming here... then possibly.

Closest I came to this conundrum thus far was a chance to see Within Temptation several years ago. But it was a Weds. night, 2 hour drive each way, in some sort of mosh pit venue w/ standing room only, and I had to work the next day, and I was like... "I like them....but not that much."

I did it before. Drove from minneapolis to green bay for a viking playoff game then drove back same day. That was about 4.5 hours.

It is pretty dangerous though.

I don't know much by them except DDD, which was quite good. What are some of their better songs?

Oh, this reminded me that I've heard Up and Down, and it was quite good as well. I'll check out the other songs, hopefully they're all good as DDD and Up and Down.
