Pretty much this. The redundancy of late-game just makes me go "Are we there yet?" and... that's why I never played it a second time. That and I spent too much on the first go.

I like the loops especially once they mix up the groups (both from character interaction and gameplay perspective), but yeah, one or two loops could have been made tighter.

The story overall is really good. The pacing of the dialogue hurts the overall presentation a lot though. So many JRPGs now have way too much dialogue just for the sake of having long dialogues. If the major events in the game were better paced, some of the fetch quest padding and dialogue fat was cut off, it could have made for an incredible story.

I personally like the loop a lot. The sense of dread it creates as the party slowly realizes Airy's true intentions and when you finally find out her true nature. It is for this reason that the story has stuck with me all these years.

7/10. The moment-to-moment writing isnt the best but overall its a good twist on the Final Fantasy formula that tells a better story than most Final Fantasy games.

Never finished this. I thought it was solid at the start but then petered off a bit. Would have given it like a 6 or something up to that point. I'm told it dives off the rails in a bad way after the point where I stopped.
