#21: Kid Eternity
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/7/1/AAOJ0pAADZFT.jpg
The Kid is thinking man's superhero. And he does a lot of thinking before he opens his mouth. Don't believe me?

The dog. His sniffer had sought out the Kid, and the Kid was grateful, but this dog was no more than a pup. He didn't know war. He thought he knew death, but creating death wasn't living it. Knowing it intimately, when a friend dies in your arms, snuffed out cruelly by a cold and calculating foe, shuddering as each labored breath attempted to escape a throat strangled with the suffering of the last moments of life. The pup didn't know dying, had never felt the final lingering beat of the heart slam against the chest, like a gunshot echoing through the hollow rib cage of the Kid when he spiraled downward into Hell. Downward, downward, sliding through the shit and the muck of damnation, the blackened filth of sin that swallowed him whole and filled every pore, every orifice, drowning him, stuffing him, filling his empty vessel with its ick, its damnation. And the Kid could do nothing to stop it. This pup - he didn't know the Kid. He couldn't. The Kid had been dead - and only the dead could walk with him on this lonely, lonely road ahead.

"Hey," he responded.

This is The Kid, Kid Eternity, in a nutshell. He's been though a lot in life and in death, and he's all about that internal monologue. He's the only character where we're allowed to get those insights into their mind (out of character), and it's really just so funny to see a wall of text of something our characters don't get to know, followed by "Hey". It's just so ridiculous.

As for what The Kid can do, with the utterance of ETERNITY, out from beyond death will come someone temporarily. It used to be someone he could choose, but after Thomas Edison attempted to force Kid Eternity to summon an entire army for him to fight with, Kid's powers have gone a bit haywire, and his summons have become more random. His summons for us have been from the likes of Alfred Nobel to Juliet Capulet to the Green Lantern Flodo Span to an assassin cat to Vesper Fairchild.

And boy, does The Kid not like being a toy for people to go to for summons whenever they feel like it. He's on good terms with many of these people whose spirits he calls upon, and what is occurring in the great beyond should be respected, not played with. And yet The Kid continues, perhaps because he wants company, perhaps because it means he'll be surrounded by beautiful women, or just because he wants to figure out what is happening with the afterlife, as some souls have been trapped in nothingness.

Oh, right, remember what I brought up in H'san Natall's entry, the conflict between the Endless? It's possible that because of that, there are souls not being taken to the afterlife, instead trapped in nothing. So in all this fun others are having, Kid Eternity has a problem. Few people are as in-tune with the afterlife as he is, and it seems as though some souls are having a great deal of trouble getting to that afterlife. This requires investigation, and that requires calling upon more souls.

This would be no issue for The Kid if he could pick and choose who he called upon, setting up a timeline of when this issue occurs, but with his powers acting up, all he can do is hope that whomever he calls upon is able to help get a bit more information on this terrible tragedy, all while bearing the weight of knowing that when the soul he calls upon's time is up, he's ultimately the one sending them back. They might not even be making it back even, and instead of sending his friends, or at the very least these souls that deserve something, back to the afterlife, he's sending them to the abyss. To nothing. It's a heavy weight to bear, and surely one that we as the players we get to witness, but might stay far from the ears of the characters who seek him out.

Kid Eternity is a rare opportunity in this campaign for something completely random to happen, tied to an extremely unique personality that has a voice all his own. All it takes is one word, say it with me...

ETERNITY!

#20 Till'all
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/2/3/AAQcMAAADhLT.png

Oh, Till'all. I've gone through the story of the White Martians in Mica'kel's write-up, so much of that story applies to Till'all as well, although most of his time on Earth was met with torture at the hands of humans.

Till'all is a child, the youngest of the White Martians, and son of the war advocate Sy'rann. As such, he's naive, childish, and, perhaps most importantly, inexperienced in the world around him. He does many of the things a child does, like have little holes to hide the sorts of treasures a child would keep, and study stories of years gone by, how the Green Martians have wronged his people.

Till'all owes Roz'etta his life, for many of the same reasons the other White Martians do. However, one incident happened that pushes Till'all over the edge, above the other Martians and into the top 20.

When Z'onn Z'orr was attacked by Kobra, a vicious betrayal, Kobra had a plan for the Martian residents of Z'onn Z'orr, simply to sabotage the fire suppression system and turn it into a fire creation system. For those not in the know, Martians (and Saturnians) have a vulnerability to fire, a fear put in them by the Guardians. The kind of fear that would fill the likes of Ari and Sinestro with envy. A fear so powerful that Martians exposed to fire risk being no longer able to even keep their form, sometimes turning into puddles.

The terrible blaze of Kobra was Till'all's first exposure to the curse of fire.

Just put yourself in Till'all's boots. Imagine knowing that the stove will burn, only for your first exposure to it being putting every bit of your skin on it. Then imagine you are also horribly allergic to stoves. The other Martians showed their familiar bond, their unity, surrounding Till'all with their puddled forms long enough for Roz'etta and her daughter to rid the area of the flames, and of any humans whose presence might put Till'all at risk.

That, however, was only the beginning. For after Roz'etta allowed Till'all to rest, she went to check on him, see how he recovered. She was met with this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/2/4/AAQcMAAADhLU.png

Till'all, the White Martian, the being that is the nightmare of many species across the universe for the blood flowing through his veins...was a fish. A flying fish, because he wanted to be in the water now, away from humans, away from fire, where it was safe. Safe to say, Till'all was heavily traumatized by his brush with fire, his first brush with fire, a terrible moment in the lives of all Martians. And, with him surrounded by men, he needed someone with a mother's touch to help him deal with his trauma. And so Roz'etta also turned into a fish, and brought Till'all comfort. It also showed a bit of a cultural difference between Saturnians and Martians, as Roz'etta uses her special eyes to learn minute details, but Till'all uses his shapeshifting abilities to touch someone closely to get the details. So, when Till'all learned that fish use gills to breathe underwater, he touched within Roz'etta's fish form to feel out her gills to copy. Awkward, but it makes sense from a cultural perspective. This only extended Till'all's love of fish and of water, as now he could stay underwater indefinitely. But he still needs to grow, to face his fears of the surface, and when he understood this, he broke down into tears, being held by Roz'etta as he wept. It's utterly tragic, but he needed to let out his pain, and let out his pain with someone he trusted. Someone who had saved his life twice.

Roz'etta's grown a lot in this campaign, but more than anything she's grown into a mother. And while she has been successful with her daughter, it's what she has learned from that experience to take care of Till'all when he needed it that showed her progress, and allowed her to bond even closer to the White Martians as a whole. And when she gets into trouble like accidentally breaking a water main with the stoic White Martian Telok'telar, these bonds mean the result is the laughter of friendship, and words of how amused Till'all will be at the wise and powerful Saturnian being so foolish and silly. These bonds may have been made on the battlefield of war, the wars with Darkseid and Kobra, but it is through Till'all, and his need for moments of peace and respite that have forged those bonds into something stronger.

Till'all still has a lot ways to go before he's recovered from the fire, but he is still a child, capable of being filled with excitement and joy and wonders of childhood, along with the joys and wonders of an alien truly experiencing Earth for the first time, an experience Roz'etta knows all too well. And I am excited for her to be along for the ride.

...Plus, really, look at him.

#19 Detective Chimp (Bobo T. Chimp)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/3/8/AAOJ0pAADbim.png
In our campaign is Oblivion Bar, host to the Shadowpact, a wide range of masters of magic. John Constantine, Enchantress, Nightshade, Nightmaster, Ragman, Arion, The Phantom Stranger. But this motley crew needs a leader. Someone who commands respect of every room they enter. Someone nobody will doubt. A master of magic among masters of magic.

Who else but Detective Chimp. He's certainly not the one I would have guessed, but in a weird way he's perfect. More than anything, the leader of the Shadowpact needs to be able to put up with these personalities, and Bobo T. Chimp finds everything human (and human-like) obnoxious to begin with, so really, how much worse is John Constantine than your average one? It's all about perspective.

On top of that, he has great chemistry with so many. Most of all is his status as sort of an uncle to Data 7, allowing Data 7 to find a kindred spirit to be unhappy about humans with, and someone whom he is comfortable being more of a pup with, as Chimp serves as Data's window into the world of magic that entrances him so, even if it comes with Chimp's disgusting habit of putting cigarettes into beer. Really, Chimp, that's just wrong.

This is not to say Bobo is only particularly a Data character. He and Roz'etta have found a bit of an understanding, as on the board of missions to go on include Gorilla City , to meet with Gorilla Grodd, and if she's going to shapeshift into a gorilla, she needs someone to teach her how to be one. That duty falls on Chimp, who has not only ensured Roz'etta looks the part, but also for her to get all the small details of gorilla culture correct. Expressions, how to walk, how to talk, and most of all, how to talk to Grodd. For it will not be enough to be a gorilla, it's being one that can at least get on Grodd's good side enough to make a bargain. I love characters who grant an insight into the cultures scarlet has made for the campaign's world, and Chimp is my source for the world of the apes. All this, while he makes sure to tell Roz'etta he sees her as no different than any other human. It's not meant to be a compliment, but still, if you weren't worth Chimp's time, he'd let you know.

And I would be lying if I said Chimp didn't have a large impact on how I see Roz'etta's daily life. In order to learn, she and Chimp determine documentaries would help her get a start, and now documentaries are not just part of her regular life, but also Susie's. When it's time to go to bed, I see Roz'etta and Susie putting on a documentary and curling up. This little thing says so much about how Roz'etta is as a person, to me. Even when she's doing something to relax with her daughter, it's for a practical purpose. She's always trying to learn, always trying to be better at something, and that aspect of her character found a way to shine through, due to Chimp.

Chimp is such a fixture in the campaign, he's one of the characters I'm really just not sure if I can picture without him in his booth, with his disgusting beer and his menus. And it's always easy to picture one of the PCs sitting across from him under a dim lamp, straight out of a 1950s movie. You might even be able to put any character across from him, PC or NPC, and have it work. That might be Chimp's value to the campaign more than anything.

#18: Misty Kilgore
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/9/7/AAOJ0pAADbmp.png
I'm sure at this point some people had given up on Misty being on my list, because Roz'etta doesn't really talk to Misty much. Those people were wrong, wrong, wrong. Misty is one of the biggest mysteries of the campaign, and I love her.

To summarize Misty, when danger came knocking, Zatanna sealed Misty in a room with salty snacks and a font of knowledge. As a result, Misty drank the font, which contained the memories of the people Zatanna had mindwiped, and on occasion, these voices SQUAWK out. Whether it's Penguin, Dr. Light (the villainous one), Professor Zoom, or Lush's past life, they all come out to talk from time to time, and it's often just as much an adventure figuring out who is talking at that moment as it is getting any sort of information out of them.

This is not to say that Misty isn't a sweetheart in her own right. She pretends(?) her pet rabbit, Pocus, can talk, while holding Pocus in front of her face and making the rabbit bounce up and down. What's that, Misty, Pocus can talk? Pocus. Can. Talk. Just like that. It's really adorable, even if inevitably someone will pop in to ruin the moment. We just hope whoever pops in to ruin it is ruining it by butting in, instead of being a problem that leaves Misty trembling in fear, like the Dark Bads did.

Whenever we seem to have a handle on Misty or Zatanna, another twist comes along. Zatanna targeted Lush? It turns out that Zatanna may have been pointed in Lush's direction by her boyfriend, Bolt. Zatanna targeted villains? It turns out she also mindwiped Batman, with the blessings of many members of the Justice League. Zatanna only did this against people's wishes? Nope, someone sought her out to have their own mind wiped. Zatanna is just the worst person possible, for mindwipes and for what happened to Misty? It turns out Misty is the daughter of Darkseid's fiance, so maybe Zatanna was just protecting people. I complete this write-up? It'll turn out Misty is actually from Earth-2 and has the cure for the Anti-Life Equation in her mind, all courtesy of Zatanna. That probably won't be the case, but with Misty you never know. The people who dive into Misty's head (figuratively and literally) sometimes have about as much of a grasp on her as those who don't.

There were 52 minds in Misty. We've figured out about half of them, by my count. That leaves well over 20 mysteries left to solve, and once we've done that, we'll really have only answered the question of who. That leaves questions of when and why, and those might really be the important ones. Those ones make a timeline, give a reason. The first mindwipe was to protect the families of heroes from sexual predators. The second one was to make sure that one stayed hidden. What was the third? The fourth? The twentieth?

I like to say that answers in this campaign generally lead to more questions, and it might not be more true in any case other than Misty. What do you think, Misty?

Misty. Loves. Write-Ups!

Thanks, Pocus.

Misty is such a fun character. I could talk about her all day. When we found her all my character knew was that she was trapped in a room by Zatanna alone and left for possibly dead. But Lush knew immediately she was going to protect this girl to where she came back to base and argued between both Checkmate and the Shadowpact that Misty should be under Lush's care as she was in both camps and felt a need to make sure this girl was okay. It wasn't until AFTER that that Lush learned what was up with Misty and that a part of her was inside of her.

Campagn 1 we were limited to being in Gotham and for the most part we were all rookie characters. Campaign 2 had a ton of freedom and more ability to plug in characters with connections throughout the DC universe, Meeting characters who you have already have an impact on in places you don't expect really makes the campaign itself feel plugged into DC. It feels like you could make an actual comic out of so many of our situations and PCs as it is.

Does Harvey Dent Batman still wear mostly black?

Also do people like him?
half red half black, and he hasn't REALLY had the screentime. He debuted in like, week 8 or so, but it was a phenomenal session. So he debuted strong, but hasn't quite been as much of a focus. Also, he's a session-only character, so he doesn't get seen too much

That is a phenomenal costume, but I wouldn't call it mostly black.

It's approaching the limit where the limit is "mostly"

Meaning 50%

#17: Black Alice (Lori Zechlin)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/5/8/AAOJ0pAADbTS.png
This troublemaker hails from Dayton, Ohio, and when the world fell apart, it was her magic that instilled life into one small neighborhood, and kept it thriving despite the enemies around her. But is she even a troublemaker? I'm not entirely sure. The thing about Alice is that nearly everything about her is fake. Her power is to copy the powers, and slightly appearance, of others. While she calls her dog Rover a dumbass, it is without the slightest bit of malice. Despite her strong front, she loves her father, who is currently Equated, so very much. Alice isn't even her real name, it's Lori.

Alice began in the campaign as a bit of a joke character, with her catchphrase of 'BRING ME MARIJUANA!', her pathetic dog Rover, and her tendency to turn into Etrigan and threaten whomever tried to force her hand on anything. It made it hard to get close to her about anything. Yet behind it all, if you pushed in the right way, you'd see that much of Alice's standoffish behavior was because she was so guarded.

She's so guarded that it's hard to tell what is real and what isn't when it comes to her. She follows the teachings of Nightshade, having been pushed in that direction by Roz'etta, because Alice is a screw-up, and Nightshade is more than willing to at least put up with screw-ups. Alice is the sort of girl to call upon the power of Etrigan in the middle of a chapel, or to seek revenge on a boy who she had a crush on but didn't like her back by trying to summon the power of God. Neither of these are particularly great ideas, but that's Alice in a nutshell. A force of humanity, going to do her own thing, often bad ideas, but that's why she's a student and not a master. All we can do is hopefully minimize the damage the next time she makes a poor decision. At the very least, Nightshade provides Alice someone to smooth out her rougher edges. They make an interesting duo, especially since Alice has grown protective of her spot as Nightshade's student, often to the dismay of anyone who seeks out Nightshade for help of their own.

It's those small holes in her defenses where Alice truly shines. She puts on an air of independence, but when Roz'etta opened the door for her to learn from Nightshade, she took it in an instant, even if her nature doesn't make her the greatest student. Her crush that led to her trying to call upon God, Brennus? They're still attached at the hip, with Alice turning into his partner in chief, getting into all sorts of magical mischief with him. And, of course, she's Pepper's best friend. She and Pepper make a fantastic pair. Both deeply miss their families, both have a bit of light and darkness about them, and at the end of the day, both really want someone they can tell their secrets to who will just listen, with no judgment on what they hear. And when both get high, judgment is the last thing on their mind. Plus each is there to take the other's side when they just need to rant about some jerk they've been dealing with, and know somebody has their back. It took a lot of work, but Alice has found a place in the world where she feels comfortable, despite all her troubles.

Of course, this isn't to say Alice has become purely drama and sorrow now. She has a tendency to get concussions in amusing ways, usually due to her actions or those of Brennus or Pepper, and her John Constantine act is hilarious (despite the sad overtones of Alice trying to put another layer between who she's being and who she is), especially given that we have the real deal and someone very familiar with John in our group. If people try to get too close nowadays, she's less likely to go Etrigan on them and more likely to make creative use of what she's learned from Nightshade to toss people into a heal with the power of shadows. She's just fun, inexperienced with the world, and does what anyone would do with her powers, experiment. And given the nature of her powers, each experiment leads to an experiment in showing off what she can do with the powers she copies.

In fact, her powers have grown now to the point where Johnbobb has been asked to make campaign art, for people whom she copies yet real art does not exist. Like copying Ragman below.

I won't lie, part of the appeal of Alice is how every time she copies someone new, we get a new picture of her. A new face she puts on for the world. No matter how her character grows or changes, the next Alice picture is just around the corner, and in that way there is always something to look forward to from her.

Hint for #16: This character is small.

#16: Star Sapphire Ring (Starsa)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/8/6/AAOJ0pAADcgS.jpg
Hello there! This is a Star Sapphire Ring! She entered the campaign as, well, a ring, having just been removed from a Star Sapphire by virtue of The Spectre killing her host. At the time, we had no idea what she would grow into. She was just a ring, a very cheerful ring, as Star Sapphires are for love, and she would scan anyone we asked to find valid Star Sapphire targets, and also pronounce names poorly.

She would weave tales of Queen Aga'po, of Green Lanterns, and mourn that she was cut off from her fellow Star Sapphires by the grid that had sealed away Earth. In time, however, she would become a friend, most notably to Saoirse, Patch, and Silhouette's shadowy double, Nikhto. For Saoirse, the Star Sapphire Ring, eventually named Starsa, was a supportive friend, bringing light of positivity to Saoirse's generally failed love life. For Patch, Starsa became something to aspire for, as he wants little more than for his number, a measure of the capacity for love, to go up, and for Nikhto...well, in the words of Starsa, they are just friends.

Yet Starsa wouldn't truly hit her stride until a mission to Coast City, where we encountered a Star Sapphire, and learned that the original battery for Starsa was destroyed by the Black Hand, meaning one thing. Starsa was dying. The second-most positive being in our organization was now suddenly facing the impossibility of mortality, unless we found a way to Zamaron to get her fixed.

Rarely in this campaign do we face a time limit, but Starsa is one of those times, and the journey to space was harrowing, including going to the center of the Earth. Of course, reaching space was the easy part. Once in space, we were captured by the Green Lanterns, who arrested us for having a rogue ring. For you see, in space, there is a War of Light brewing, between the new Siestro Corps, and the Green Lanterns. And the Star Sapphires? They are considered persona non grata on Oa. Sealed away in a green orb, Starsa was dying, helpless to do anything but smack against the walls containing her with a pathetic tink tink. After so much work, after so many times being reminded of her mortality, here, so close to the finish line, Starsa served to show how serious the war was. One ring is still an enemy, no matter how badly it begs for help. Yet we managed to get enough rope from the Lanterns, enough leeway, to go on a mission to get a ship, and to use that ship to go to Zamaron, home of the Star Sapphires.

If there is one word to describe Star Sapphires, it is unsettling. Star Sapphires may be all about love, but it is not necessarily mutual love. Your love is chosen for you, and if they don't love you back, well...they will. It's all extremely disturbing, and it would not have been nearly as disturbing without Starsa being so endearing, so innocent. Just as creepy though is how Starsa saw nothing wrong with anything the Star Sapphires were doing in forcing others into their corps, and seeing nothing wrong with transmitting everything she sees back to the Star Sapphires, because why would her friends not want the Star Sapphires in on everything they're doing? It's a painful reminder that for all the progress Starsa's made, she is still part of a society we can't wrap our heads around. She's the perfect introduction to aliens for the campaign. An excellent ally, a great friend, but...really, really frightening in what she finds acceptable.

And yet, she's just so happy to be fixed, it's hard to be upset with her. If anything, when we have to send her away to keep what we're saying from being sent back to the Star Sapphires, making her think she's helping us by pretending to be a Green Lantern ring elsewhere on Oa, we feel bad. We're helping the Green Goddamn Lanterns, and we feel bad!

That's just how great Starsa is. Someone who began as nothing, and became a character, all through her own will. And we love her.

Hint for #15: This character is very rarely seen alone.
