A nurse is facing a wave of backlash after posting a TikTok video of herself crying after one of her patients died. TikTok user olivia_tylerr33 posted the emotional video on June 17 captioned: It never gets easier. Lost a patient today, states the videos caption as she paces back and forth in the hospital hallway. The nurse leans against the wall with her head down trying to calm herself. Shake [it] off, you have 5 more hours, states the clip. Over the video, an emotional song plays, I put my armor on, show you how strong I am. I put my armor on, Ill show you that I am. Im unstoppable. TikTok user @Olivia_tylerr33 has since deleted her account, but others were quick to duet the video and post it on Twitter, slamming the health-care professional for exploiting her patient for likes and views. A viral tweet reposting the video with the caption, Aw man cant believe my patient died let me go make a tiktok rq [real quick], has nearly 14 million views.

I understand raising awareness on the difficulties of being a healthcare professional but this feels like a patient was just exploited for likes and views. There are other ways to share experiences, this way was not tasteful, @ateenyalien wrote. Imagine walking into the hallway and seeing this, @simonelhanna replied. Let me set up the camera so I can cry, @AndyJScott commented on the video with @FreezePeach123 adding, And then post it on tiktok with a song all about me. Is my grief in frame? @AJO_MKE quipped. When you are emotionally upset at the loss of a life (rightfully so) but then draw attention to yourself so others can see that youre upset, then it is no longer about the person who died or their memory, but rather about yourself. That is called narcissism, tweeted @OnlyRobBoss. Nurses also took time to weigh-in on the reality. Not a single nurse does this ever. We have several patients to care for and when were dealing with patient A, were thinking about patient B and C. No time for this and quite frankly you get very hardened to death. Thing is, when you take into account how she set up the angles and then "acted" through it it comes off as.... Not a good look

She may have actually felt that pain, but then going on to make that video the way she did.. nah

And in my experience it never gets any easier, but I may just be a puss-ball idk

I don't think you understand why this is problematic.

Healthcare professionals going onto twitter, tiktok, youtube, etc. to vent or show emotions or do whatever they want to give us an insight into the hardships of being a frontline healthcare professional in the middle of a pandemic is totally appropriate. Talking about how you felt about a patient dying is appropriate.

This situation is not appropriate at all. Setting up a camera and then reacting to a patient dying does not come across as genuine and it comes across more like sociopathic.

I don't think people are saying doctors and nurses can't be allowed to process trauma. It's that posting a tiktok video of you crying immediately following a death is not an acceptable way to do so. If taking a video immediately after has, in studies, shown to help then she can take a video. Or get a therapist. Or rely on on-site counseling. At no point does it need to be a social media post.

I hope people realize at some point that there's a lot of middle ground between letting someone get away with something unpunished and having the entire world dogpile on them.

It's weird that people have convinced themselves that they're the good one for joining in on a savage punishment that outweighs the crime. Most the time, it not even being an actual crime.

We're way too far into this to be ignorant to how it gets to people when the whole would dogpiles on them. We're back to stoning people. That's dramatic, but think about it.

Every mistake now has the same punishment of extreme public shaming(stoning).

The truth is, no one will ever understand what we go through unless they do the work themselves. I mean, look at how little power/respect medical residents have. We do work equivalent to a 200K salary and only get paid on average 50K and nobody cares, and you don't see us going on tiktok to complain about this shit.

Even during my time in school 3 patients in the home died who I had worked with. One who was just a hilarious super crude lady that was awesome.

Its literally part of the job and if you can't accept that going in you're probly in the wrong caree tbh. Doesn't mean it isn't sad, but it happens and you have to expect it.

I couldn't do job where I know I would lose a lot of people. Just thinking about makes me weak.

She did it an attention whorey way, but my chick is a orthopedic surgeon, and she cries everytime she loses a patient. People give her shit for it, but I tell her it's proof she's still a kind hearted person.

Imagine thinking quickly typing up a message to vent about a personal tragedy on an anonymous message board is equal to putting your face out there by setting up a camera, editting music, and fake crying over someone you don't even know
