They'd be a leadership election, and we'd probably have Gove throw in his hat, again.

I almost can't believe how quickly this has snowballed. 38 people have resigned, many of them very senior. Wtf.

I'm surprised this happened over Pincher, though. Partygate didn't cause that many people to resign.

In the Committe meeting Johnson was asked flat out if he had been told that other members of his cabinet had sexually abused people and Johnson refused to answer.

There has already been a scandal about Tories watching porn in the commons and harrasing female MPs too

I think these Tory MPs are scared that this just going to be the first scandal to come out and want to get off the sinking ship.

Patel has told Johnson to resign.

A bold move for her considering he is quite possibly the only person in the entire country who can stand her.

They all knew what he was like. They all knew what Boris was like and that he knew about this.

This is just 'The sinking ship fleeing the rats' as it was put. They've seen the recent disastrous elections and want to save their own seats. They haven't changed and supported Boris in all of this.

Just a matter of appointing another MP to the position. The people resigning aren't quitting their job as MP, they're still in Parliament, they're just standing down from their governmental roles.

It's not technically a complex process to replace a minister who has resigned - Sunak and Javid were both replaced by bedtime yesterday, and they didn't leave until after Boris' 5pm interview.

But there are so many roles to fill now that it will take time (and note that this all booted off in the first place because someone got an appointment that they really shouldn't have done), and it's worth noting that alongside all the resignations a hell of a lot of backbenchers (MPs in Johnson's party who don't hold a ministerial role) have come out and said that they are not supporting Johnson, which whittles down the list of available candidates somewhat. Boris won't want a repeat of tonight where someone that he appointed less than 24 hours previously is publicly calling on him to stand down.

He survived, barely, the party's attempt to get rid of him. And said group who decides that is having an election to decide who will handle whatever they do next.

So is this analogous to resigning from your committee positions as a US senator or is it closer to resigning as Secretary of Defense, just that that job doubles with a parliamentary position.

A bit of both. Sunak as Chancellor and Javid as Health Secretary were classes as "Cabinet Ministers" - they had major jobs that were considered a part of the innermost circle of government - they'd be analogous to the SoD.

Other Ministers were in charge of departments but not considered as "major" - they're Ministers of State, but on a tier lower than Secretaries of State, while other resignations still were Parliamentary Secretaries, the third tier who, work in Ministers of State's departments.

All are - and continue to be - elected MPs and hold a seat in Parliament, represent a constituency, carry a parliamentary vote etc., but they no longer have a role in Johnson's government.
