Today was already a wild ride ever since the McDonald letter this morning, but this is huge.

Is this finally the end of Boris?

Definition of insanity.

Boris will be out of power the second he's forced out, and not a moment sooner.

He was just given a year of breathing room, too.

always fun to see which ministers scramble to publicly defend him, the ones who KNOW they don't have a chance of getting given a position under anyone else as PM

anyone that replaces Boris is in deep shit anyway, they won't have a decades-crafted "caddish rogue" character to keep them afloat during scandal. and there will be a LOT of scandal to unpick over the months after

Will Quince is the latest resignation.

You may recognise him as the guy on TV a couple of days ago fervently denying that Johnson knew about Pincher.

He specifically cites being sent to do the media rounds with statements that Number 10 knew were false as the reason.

Not that the whole Pincher thing happened, just that he was lied to about it.

what was the mcdonalds letter

Lord McDonald put out a letter yesterday morning that absolutely blew open Johnson's false narrative that he didn't know of past allegations about Pincher when he appointed him as Deputy Whip, and that furthermore revealed that past accusations against Pincher that the Government had described as "resolved" were actually "resolved" by finding him guilty.

Johnson's eventual defense yesterday teatime was that he had been told about Pincher's assaults, but that he had "forgotten". Which is when the resignations started flooding in.

He does mention it but only mildly after making other weaker points.

Haven't been paying much attention to international affairs, what happened that's causing all of this?

  • Deputy Chief Whip resigned after being caught groping people.
  • It emerges he had previous allegations against him that Boris should aware of when he was appointed.
  • Number 10 sends out a string of Ministers to do the press circuits, claiming Boris knew nothing.
  • Turns out (shock!) Boris knew everything.
  • The story from Number 10 keeps changing, to the extent that Ministers touting the official line on national TV are finding out just hours later that they were sent out to lie.
  • Lord McDonald publishes a letter saying that not only did Boris know, as has already come out, but that Pincher was found guilty of the assaults, which Number 10 had referred to just as the matters being "resolved".
  • Urgent Question is asked in Parliament about this yesterday afternoon. Boris sends yet another Minister to answer it, and his response, predictably, has already been contradicted.
  • Boris finally makes a statement yesterday evening saying that while he had been told that Pincher was a proven sex pest, he "forgot".
  • Almost immediately after this the resignations start coming in. Mainly because people are upset that they were directed to lie about Boris promoting a groper, not because the groper got promoted.

She was the previous prime minister who was forced to resign chiefly due to Boris Johnson calling for her to go over her Brexit deal. She survived a vote of no confidence (much like Boris), but didn't last much longer afterwards. You can't govern the country if you can't control your own party, after all.

No, he really is our version of Trump, both born in New York City, their birthdays are just a day apart although Trump is much older.

Boris has made racist remarks much like Trump, they even have scruffy hair. They are carbon copies of each other, right down to the attempt to cling on to power
