No. Seems silly to do it when credit cards have a higher safety net, and you get rewards. Only reason to go full debit is if you're bad with money management, but anyone like that probably wouldn't be smart enough to do it.

D.

I always pay them off and have autodraft setup if I would happen to forget, which has never happened in the 6 years I've had the card.

Although I do get 2% cash back on all purchases. Which has added up over the years.

I used to think like that, and was afraid to get a credit card because my parents had a lot of debt growing up.

And then I had to travel and the hotel wouldn't take my debit card.

I use my credit card for little more than like, buying a coffee. Easy to pay off every week or two and its not a big issue.

My husband and I both have credit cards, but we only use them for specific payments and as a last resort for anything else. Cash and debit have covered things for us fine. For different reasons, neither of us like using credit. For me, it's anxiety and unfamiliarity. For him, it's principle and experience.

We both make favorable income anyway. We rarely need to use credit...and as far as I'm concerned, that's where most people should be. That's what they should be working towards. I wouldn't be relying on credit during a nation's iffy economy anyway.

This. You just have to check your balance sometimes to make sure youre not spending more than you can pay for. I have a debit card, but its really more of an ATM card than anything. I use it when something goes wrong with my credit card because I usually dont carry cash.

CCs are literally free money from rewards as long as you have even a modicum of self control. Just use it like you normally would with your debit card and pay off the balance once a day or every few days. I bought my golf clubs, two flights to Vegas, and have another ~$200 in points sitting there growing every month.

Just don't be an idiot. That's it.

For the love of god, ditch that shithole bank. We already get charged by payment card processors and transaction fees and service fees just for the ability to use our money, don't let your bank charge you too. That's horse shit.

This is actually not technically true. You pay for those rewards regardless of whether or not you use a credit card. They're basically baked into the prices of everything now. Which is even more of a reason to always use a credit card. Otherwise you're just paying for someone else's rewards essentially.

It's actually an incredibly fucked up system lmao but if you don't participate then you're just straight up leaving your own money on the table.

Capital One gave us their Platinum card right off the bat. 3000 dollar limit.

then i got some from smaller credit card companies: Mission Lane, and Ollo.

after a couple months they all raised their credit limits, and in the case with Capital One, they let us upgrade the card to a Venture One

Use a credit for everything. Pay it off right away. I've had this card since 2017 and have paid a total of $0 in interest. Got a TON of money in cash back. Literally free money.

credit cards offer perks / rewards and more consumer protections. ex reversing a charge on a credit card is trivially simple (usually), but getting funds put back into your account is a PITA.

i don't go into 'debt' when i use a CC because i'm responsible with my money and don't spend what i don't have.

I only carry 1 of my 3 debit cards anymore and that's just if I need to get cash from an ATM for some reason.

Otherwise I use credit cards to buy everything I can. Have one for 5% cash back on groceries, another for 3% back on gas, and a third for 2% back on everything else.

Pay them off once a month when I get emailed about the statement being posted.

You were taught wrong then lmao. The best strategy is to use the card for bills you pay anyway and then pay it off at the end of the month. You get rewards and your credit gets boosted. I'll also use my credit cards for a big purchase like a new gun or car work and then just pay it off before it starts accumulating interest for the same reason.
Not utilizing credit just screws you down the road when you want to buy a house or car, if you can even get approved you're paying exorbitant interest rates.

You should find whoever told you that and punch them right in the back of the head.

I've always been very "defensive" with using a credit card. Paying it up every week to make sure I never miss a payment.

Rewards, maybe small as they are, beat my interest gains from my bank savings account considerably. Reality with money is you just shouldn't pass up any percentage of gains, especially when it requires minimal effort (making the payment with the money you would've used with a debit card/cash anyway).

Also, me checking my balance every week is fast look at my spending.

A CC is only as good/bad as its user.
