Pretty broad question, but I'm looking for some games that let me mainly listen to an audio book while playing most of the time.

I'm asking this because I really enjoyed Rogue Legacy 2 in this regard, as most of the gameplay was fairly reactionary. I ended up reading 4 or 5 books while playing it.

No FPS games please.

Death Stranding is this type of game 90% of the time IMO

Minecraft is probably the easiest to recommend. Especially with how flexible its difficulty is.

100% Orange Juice

i say this mostly because there is a mod to replace one of the character themes in it with an hour-long audiobook

I feel like this question depends on your familiarity with the game, because the games I'd most readily do this with would absolutely require thinking for a new player (like Civ).

Most recent game I played that would be utterly brainless is Nex Machina, which is a twin-stick shooter. It's not very long, though. I'd mostly say this of Children of Morta, too, which is a dungeon-crawling rogue-lite, so it probably feels similar to your Rogue Legacy.

Yeah, civ is good example of a game where I think this is definitely not the case because you are constantly strategizing.

I have 150 hours in CK3 but that game wouldnt work at all

Picross games?

like yeah it's a logic game but a lot of it becomes automatic after you've been doing it for a while.

or maybe a board game like Culdcept, you could zone out a bit and just let the game run during AI player turns (well, keeping an eye open for when they try to attack you of course).

Games I've done this with...

Musuo games
World of Warcraft
Hunting Korok Seeds
Satisfactory
Valheim

Lots of Risk of Rain 2

The secret with stuff like this is to find a game that doesn't use the language processing part of your brain. Multi-tasking is possible but you can't analyze language from two sources at once.

Came in to recommend rogue legacy 2, lol.

I got through the entire game playing in windowed mode while watching TV and movies

Yeah, it's easily the most grindy game I've ever loved, and after trying to figure out why when I usually hate grindy games and I've come to the conclusion the game is just really fun.

I got the true ending at NG+8 and my only sadness is there really isn't a reason to keep playing

Awhile ago I was looking for the same thing while listening to things, and decided to do certain tasks for 100% completion for old games that I hadn't done before. Specifically, I got a full rage list for Gau in FF6 and also got the Sword of Kings in Earthbound.

Now, I tend to default to certain mindless phone games like 2048, Wordbrain, or Flow Free.
