To show the public just how corrupt and treasonous Trump and his criminal friends were. They dont have to recommend criminal prosecutions but can still get all the evidence out there.

Trump tries to steal the election. That is a fact at this point. People can continue to ignore it but it happened.

Now Republicans are using this to say nothing happen on Jan. 6. I swear Democrats go out of their way to fuck things up.

When pressed on the matter and whether the committee had ruled out the possibility of referring criminal charges, particularly for former President Donald Trump, Thompson replied: "We dont have authority."
But the committee's vice chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., suggested later on Monday that a decision was not yet final.
"The committee has not issued a conclusion regarding potential criminal referrals. We will announce a decision on that at an appropriate time," she said in a statement on Twitter.
Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., tweeted in a separate statement, that the committee "has yet to vote," on recommending criminal referrals.
"If criminal activity occurred, it is our responsibility to report that activity to the DOJ," she said.
Rep. Adam Schiff, one of three California Democrats on the committee, also weighed in during a CNN interview Monday when asked about Thompson's remarks, saying, We haven't had a discussion about that, so I dont know that the committee has reached a position on whether we make a referral or what the referrals might be, I thought we were deferring that decision until we concluded our investigation.

I'm not against these hearings.... I think it's important to get a public record out there of what has been discovered. Half the shit you see about it is wrong or misconstrued by the media.

Is it basically a show? Yes. But what else could it really be but that? One party isn't even living in reality anymore.

Investigate, make it public, and if people want to look they can look.

Do I think Trump should be in legal trouble for it? Probably. Do I think actually holding him accountable will do a single thing? Fuck no. The ONLY thing it will accomplish is to make the far right more entrenched and more prone to violence. Granted I'm not sure what the actual solution is. As of right now it seems to be "let them calm themselves down and they will get back to reality" but that isn't happening.
