Also people like to ignore the fact that our economy tanked hard in the first week of COVID, and Trump simply said "no it didn't" and injected over a trillion dollars into the market. Bet that didn't have any long term effects on the economy and inflation, lol!

This. And it's been true for longer than most people on PotD have been alive.

It's the flip-side of the coin to Clinton getting credit for the economic boom of the 90s in spite of having almost nothing to do with it. People tend to blame or praise the current President for whatever major economic, political, or sociological events and trends happen during their term, even if they have literally nothing to do with it, or it was triggered by the executive decisions from multiple terms ago.

The average person is a moron, and completely lacks any real grasp of cause and effect.

The average human also can't understand the world except through the lens of narrative, and every narrative needs a villain. The guy at the top becomes the perfect scapegoat, because it's easier to blame a single person than it is to blame a large group (like Congress) or global socioeconomic trends, or inevitable long-term consequences of previous decisions.

So President bad. And that's true regardless of who is sitting in the seat or what team they're part of. And if you see the current President as being part of "your team", you just blame the last guy.

As an 80s kid rather than a 90s kid, my explanation for both is "people are stupid, and like stupid things".

Technically, the US has an outsized influence on the rest of the world. The idea that just because there are problems in the rest of the world, too, doesn't mean the US isn't at the heart of it and that politicians aren't at the heart of that. I know people have short memories, but the 2008 recession triggered a worldwide recession.

Funko Pop!s are both much better than Beanies and the structure is far more intuitive. There's no particularly good explanation for Beanie Babies, other than a collective fit of madness. At least Funko Pop!s have an intuitive appeal since they provide merch in some cases where no merch was previously available. It's like bitching about t-shirts.

No government is capable of delivering results acceptable to all Americans because America is too large and diverse for any government to come close to representing all people. The closest you could do is keeping government out of most things, but you'll have issues there, too. As long as America is one nation instead of several smaller nations, you're going to get the slop of compromise.... yet breaking up America dilutes its power on the global stage.
