See I don't quite know about that, mostly because Kimiko seems to have gone through some big emotional development this season, and I can't really see her doing that. I think the better payoff to her subplot this season would be her using her powers heroically.
now if something does happen to little Nina, so be it

Ok so...

that finale was pretty bad. I wondered earlier in this topic how they would tie up so many loose ends and speculated a lot of storylines would continue to the next season. Instead they just threw everything together without earning any of payoff. Worst finale of The Boys, which is really sad because it was the best season.

This really was the nightmarest of the nightmares for Butcher in the end.

Ryan's smile at the end was so fucking depressing.

I'm overall fine with how things happened but that probably could have been two episodes to make things feel less shoved together.

Also, Noir got shafted goddammit.

I also thought the finale was kinda bad. Thought it was just me though.

I know it's unlikely, but I'm still hoping Noir ain't actually dead and that Soldier Boy breaks out somehow.

Man, this finale sucked. I'm pretty disappointed because I had high hopes.

Spoilers for Season 4:

Black Noir is confirmed dead and the actor will be playing an entirely new character that will be in the Black Noir costume.

I liked it. I think if there was one more episode, things would feel stretched. And I think compared to the previous episode, which may have been the best of the show, nothing was going to quite feel as good.

And you know... it's the Boys. The finale being incredibly pyrrhic is par for course.

It's just funny to me that after last week I made a post about how so much was going on and there was no way they would address it all in the finale.

Then they did. And it went poorly.

Stretching it out would have been the best outcome :(

Homelander makes a call off screen and learns where Ryan is no problemo and kidnaps him.
Noir just fucking dies.
SoldierBoy tells his origin story and decides meh I'll kill my son anyway.
SoldierBoy v. Homelander.
SoldierBoy v. Butcher.
Maeve v. Homelander.
Butcher's officially on a ticking clock.
Maeve gets out and then dies in a redemption moment and then survives in an oddly optimistic moment for the show.
Ashley shows some good finally.
Congress chick becomes VP running mate.
Homelander fucking kills a guy and now has sealed his MAGA base away from Vought and is has begun corrupting Ryan.

That's a lot

Yeah I really dug it. I think dragging it out into another episode would've been too much, the ideal would've been just adding another like 15-20 minutes to this episode just so we could get a little more time resolving Black Noir/A-Train/but I think what we got was great. Payoff for Kimiko was great, payoff for Hughie was great (really appreciated him finally choosing to boost up Starlight and finding satisfaction in her success), payoff for MM was great. The entire fight in Vought Tower was a blast, and even the stuff that felt a little rushed (namely Black Noir dying) was decent enough.

One thing that confuses me: Is Starlight actually powerful? Like she's made out to be one of the most powerful supes, but her use of power is almost always just glowing her eyes threateningly like she's going to do something and not doing it. Here, clearly the enhanced light supercharged her power, but she used it to like... briefly knock back Soldier Boy, and then she was all tuckered out? I don't get it

anyway it's a blast I like it

I don't understand the spoiler marking scheme here as you guys are spoiler marking things that have already happened in the show and things way beforehand. I assumed you were marking leaks and comics stuff, which makes it wild when you actually run into that stuff like the dude marking Noir stuff from supposedly future seasons randomly in with the stuff that already happened in the show.

That said

People keep complaining about starlight's blast, but forget soldier boy is absolutely indestructible also. I mean, the whole point of soldier boy is that he can do this all day lol.

I thought this finale was weaker than every episode of the season and better than every episode of last season. Less of a finale, and more of connective tissue for another season. I don't actually need TV season finales to necessarily have major payoff - looking that the show from a longer term lens, I could live with watching a show less in chapters and more in comic issue installations, and that's more of what has been happening in this season of The Boys.

No I get that I just think it would've helped to show the power of it on the environment around them, like how Soldier Boys blast leveled the entire mansion, it's hard to tell how strong Starlight actually is when the only effect we saw was against someone invincible

Black Noir's death really soured me on the whole thing. Like the dialogue with Homelander talking about being able to see him was great, but him being killed by Homelander is such a whatever who cares afterthought. They gave us all of this development to be a sudden kill by Homelander that doesn't really mean much.

I think it would have at least have been better if Homelander had killed him in front of Soldier Boy or something. Maybe let Noir do literally anything other than go down in the lamest way possible. Just a complete misfire on that and I can't understand it.

I had the same thought. Tease a Noir/Soldier Boy face-off until Homelander steps in and kills him. Works as both Homelander being pissed about not knowing he had a father as well as a last ditch effort to impress Soldier Boy.

I guess they kinda needed it to scare the piss out of the remaining Seven and Ashley, but they were already terrified anyway (except A-Train, who was honestly my favorite part of this season).

I understand that was why they wanted to have Homelander kill Black Noir, to kind of show that he was in charge and wasn't taking any kind of shit, but honestly why would any of them think that at all? We're down to Deep, Ashley, and A-Train. They're all sufficiently afraid of Homelander and always have been. Black Noir didn't need to die like that to make that statement. I just really don't get how they thought it would be a satisfying death at all for a character who, if you didn't really care about him before (even though I understand he was always popular) then you absolutely did after the past few episodes.

I think popular is the wrong word. He's been a weird chekhov's gun of a character for the entire show so it makes sense that people are miffed.

Just watched the season over the past few days. Overall definitely the strongest season. Soldier Boy was a fun villain.

I did feel like the finale kind of dropped the ball, though. I agree that Noir's death was premature, but I also really didn't like that Ryan's presence immediately borked the plan and made everybody but Maeve focus down Soldier Boy instead of the considerably more psycho Homelander. Every plotline involving Ryan sucks, and now it looks like it's gonna get even worse as Homelander makes him go full Hitler Youth.

I myself didn't mind how they used noir. It was clear they weren't going the route of the comics, so they made up a different way to use the character as a storytelling vehicle. It filled an important role and enhanced the season overall

It will stink to not have his running gag anymore. It would have been more dramatic for homelander to kill him in front of SB, but it just didn't align with homelander's goal of pitching the family

Worst part of the season (as always?) was anything to do with hughie, along with most of the last episode. Best parts were the dream episode, a-train being a shitter, and the aggressively direct satire
