I feel like that level of excitement is what the power point at the end of episode 5 should have been. Pretty awesome.

I am a little disappointed this doesn't pin back to erika...

But I guess that is kind of the point? That there could be multiple solutions and the fight for truth is the fight for each one.

Also what a great contrast to the anime fight scenes in Ch2 which were weird and felt disjointed. My guess is their is symbolism in their now that I would pick up given everyone was fighting with red and blue at the time, but this felt like an exciting fight scene that meshed well with the story.

Anyways that was great. Probably going to take another few days off and then start chapter 6

So, I mentioned awhile ago, that you were 'on the right track' with thinking about why you're being shown scenes that are 'clearly unnecessary', but you weren't really completing that thought. I didn't elaborate, because Episode 5 kind of brings it up as a plot point toward the end.

Basically, it's not "Why am I being shown this if it's pointless" but rather the inverse- "If I'm being shown this, it's important, so why is this seemingly unimportant thing being shown?". It all stems from trust, essentially, as the Dlanor and Battler scene in the ??? Tea party discussed.

Without love, it can't be seen isn't just a repeated catch phrase in the story for no reason, imo it's also one of the most important hints in the entire story, as you should understand now that you've gotten to the big twist at the end of Ep5 with Battler fully on the Witch side for some reason after coming to trust Beatrice.

Give some thought to what that means.

Also, as a related personal note, I doubly love the end of Episode 5 because it proved a theory I came up with in Episode 4 that Beato wanted Battler to beat her. I was pretty adamant about it after Episode 4 was first translated and people thought I was crazy, lol. Code Geass spoilers: A lot of what she was doing reminded me about how Lelouch intentionally became a villain to unite people at the end of Code Geass R2, and once I thought about it through that lense, I couldn't unsee it and was pretty well convinced that was what was happening.

I also love that it turns the twist at the end of Episode 3 into a DOUBLE twist where actually, Beato WAS helping Battler. She then intentionally threw the game by making it seem like she was tricking him because she realized it was too effective. If you pay attention during that scene, she actually cycles through some pained expressions when she sees Battler's trust in her destroyed before going full trollface cackle mode. It's pretty easy to dismiss that or pass it off as just her flexing her acting skills, but no, it's legit.

Well no, people knew that, but most people assumed she just gave up and not that she actively wanted Battler to win and was trying to guide him to do so. People definitely still had the assumption the game was legit "I'm trying to win, but just don't care anymore" and not a means to an end for her.

She definitely did still give up though, just not on the goal people thought.

Oh, well thats dumb. After 60 hours it was obvious Beatrice was logical and wasnt going to give up just cuz

It still isnt very clear why Beatrice feels this way which I assume is coming (In someways the length of this and the fact that I cant really review what happened without spoilers kind of creates a you had to have been their environment because maybe it is obvious and I missed something somewhere)

You can actually figure out the reason right now (as well as solve the majority of the series), though obviously most people wouldn't yet, as figuring out Beatrice's motives is a huge part of the mystery as a whole.

Funnily enough the earliest someone solved the series (with proof after the fact we can verify) is Episode 2. Like, as the whole series was coming out, so its not possible they got spoiled, someone made an almost entirely correct guess as to the overall solution of the series and there is an archive of it. I think it was one of the early topics on the Animesuki forums, though I couldn't tell you which off hand (though my guess would be the Episode 2 release discussion).

I think with 5 I can confidentially say this is pretty great. None of my previous issues have been removed in that I think you could have achieved the same effect in half the dialogue but I think 5 cemented this as genuinely enthralling

I also think the 4 into 5 link was well done where 4 made me care about Ange and 5 showed Bern was an asshole who used her which I think was a good juxtaposition of episodes.

Though, correct me on my higurashi lore as I didnt watch past Kai, but wasnt it implied Bern is .. shoot what is her name. Rika? That doesnt really make sense any more

It's complicated, and also the Higurashi spinoff that addressed some Higurashi-Umineko connections was so bad I recommend setting it aside entirely.

I vaguely also recall hearing the Umineko anime was trash. Is it too early to ask about that?

The anime only covers the first four episodes so you could technically watch it now if you wanted

I've never watched it because I've only heard bad things so I can't tell you from personal experience

The anime is abysmal.

It basically sucked all the energy out of things, changed a bunch of characters personalities (Battler is super angry almost all the time for instance), and just is generally very poor quality (there's literally straight up pieces missing from the animation in places like you can see through Genji at one point IIRC).

Also it uses almost none of the OST.

The OP and ED are pretty okay though. That's about all it has going for it.
I wouldn't even say its worth watching as a curiosity personally.

Umineko anime famous for being one of the worst adaptations ever made.

Ok, so this feels somewhat crazy, but is there some way that Battler is Kinzo?

Like it makes no sense at face value, but it feels like everything is hinting at this. Battler more than 6 years ago is not going to have a relationship with Beatrice if Battler is ... what 16 or something?

And it would tie in to how he has been missing and has a special connection only Kinzo has and such

Part of the reason my updates have been slow (Other than holidays and sports) is this entire premise is fairly nonsensical and I completely agree with Jessica here

I'll remind you what Episode 5 tried to get across: It's being presented this way, so it's probably important in some way that it is.

Basically, flip the chessboard around: If it ISN'T nonsensical that it's being presented this way, why is it being presented this way? What is Battler trying to convey with this plot line in his story?

I will say that personally I wasn't a huge fan of Ep6 on initial read either, but I've come around on it a lot since.

Ep 6 is a weird one for me. I'm... OKAY with it but absolutely understand the frustrations with it.

Ep 7 though. That is a wild ride.

I mean you say this, but there have been flashes of complete brilliance that just zoom. Some of the chaotic scenes for one, but even the Maria/Rosa stuff moved pretty briskly in a enthralling way
