A Bangladeshi student died after snatchers reportedly pushed her on the subway track in New York, reports US-based Bangla newspaper Thikana. Zinat Hossain (24), a student of Hunter College in Brooklyn, died on the spot after she was crushed under the train at local time 9:00pm on May 11. Bangladeshis in New York are warning fellow expats through social media to be more careful while taking the subway. The newspaper reported that New York police have not yet confirmed the identity of the snatchers. It was also not confirmed whether Zinat was a victim of hate crime. Police think the possibility is there that snatchers were trying to take Zinat's bag and at one stage she was pushed towards the subway rail track.

I think this is number three or four, honestly.

They really need to install those gates that only open when the train is there. Last time that said they couldn't because of how the stations are set up, but this can't keep happening.

Sounds like a robbery gone wrong, NYC subways are damn near death chambers at this point.

Oh, you're right I found at least one other that had a death and a third that had injuries from the fall but lived.

They need to figure out a way to block the track when the train isn't there so nobody can fall in

Let me guess, they can't because the trains aren't advanced enough to stop in the same place every time?

Disgusting brutality. Hopefully security cams give some kind of leads to the killers.

The stations also need safety implementations to prevent fatalities on the tracks. New York CAN certainly afford it. For god sake, at least some guardrails preventing bodies from falling off the platforms. No family wants to get news that their loved one was crushed under a machine.

Such precautions should have been implemented years ago for the sake of children, elderly, and pets anyway.

RIP to her.

but yea, unfortunately people are going to continue being hurt or killed unless if some safety measures are put into place so they can't just fall on the tracks like that.

and not even just people being attacked, but also those who might be impaired in some way, and inadvertently fall.

Isn't the shuttle train in the airport already like this? Why isn't it on subways too?

They exist and I'm sure New York could easily afford it. I don't understand why it isn't done more often for subways. I know I was in Spain and there were actually some slanted platforms, like slanted downward TOWARD the track and all they did was warn you they're slanted. Barriers of some form should be much more common.

Not really tbh. Just one of the most visible. Same with California. Both of them have their conservative issues which they sometimes try to overcompensate.

No, trains in the NYC subway are mostly manually driven, and on the few lines that do have automatic train operation, it's new (to NYC Transit anyway) and doesn't work perfectly, especially in outdoor stations where weather can, and does make things tricky as well as continued signal issues that cause trains to randomly stop.

Also, setting up gates at every station would probably cost billions and the MTA would much prefer to spend money adding CBTC (the signal system that allows for the automatic train operation mentioned above) to more lines, and providing ridiculous amounts of overtime.
