It is funny that people keep saying this when the corporation would rather them not take action because of lawsuit risk. They don't give a fuck about some store demos.

These people did it on their own terms for whatever reason. Maybe they like busting people or asserting their dominance to a lower economic class I don't know. Maybe they just want to play hero. Could be any reason really. Even just natural instincts.

My brother played football and after seeing and hearing them at great length I can confirm that high school football players absolutely are looking to get into fights.

Straight up. These companies don't give a fuck about us. In most places if we did this and things got sketchy legally with the offender(s), the company would be quick to fire us saying we violated policy.

It could just be reflex. If you see thieves escaping some people might just instinctively rush to stop them before thinking Hey, we have insurance/I might get fired for this. If Best Buy is like basically every store in the country, their policy is to tell workers not to try and stop shoplifters, but the adrenaline rush from the chaos can easily overwrite that in the heat of the moment.

I used to be split between door bitch duty and refunds counter.

The number of times I got told off for following policy and refusing a refund. I stopped giving a fuck, because I was going to get screwed over either way.

Like, this one time my manager made me give a change of mind refund on a sheet set. That was smeared all over with what I hope was pet urine and feces.

That's true, but that's why you've got to quickly unbox it at a remote location. Stealing from a big store is a considerable risk regardless.

No it's not because most large successful companies steal from their employees and exploit their consumers. Unless it's part of your job responsibilities defending their assets is incredibly foolish. I get wanting to prevent crimes to keep further instances from becoming more rampant and things getting worse, but when it comes to companies let them protect their own assets.

Most companies would rather have thousands in merchandise stolen than for an employee to block the door. Except for Walmart, they'll throw you in a cage in the back.

I used to work at a bottle shop. At the most we'd have one person ask any thieves to remove bottles from their jackets, and they'd do it.

We'd never ever go this far. It's covered by insurance

It might be foolish to risk yourself for some faceless corporation.

But think about those lovely minutes before the police arrive where you can pull them into a broom closet and do anything to the thieves as long as it doesn't leave a mark. Or rather a mark that can't be explained away.

I used to work there years back and on the floor you probably made around 10-12 bucks. I think they make 15 now so somewhere between there. Also idk how those employees got away with that without being fired tbh. Youre taught to never get physical with the thieves because anything can happen.

lol no. That's a peon's mindset. If I see someone's shit being stolen and it isn't mine or someone that I care about but that of a corporation I don't sweat it. They can afford the loss and easily recoup it. Risking your neck and livelyhood for them is peak level stupidity.

Risking your safety to protect the corporate profit margin is not very smart. Youre not protecting your pay because they legally cant pay you any less and someone stealing a pair of headphones isnt going to give BestBuy legal right to not pay the employees.

Where does law enforcement stand on citizen retail workers physically stopping a thief? I would advise citizens to not do that and just call the cops. They clearly have cameras to make an identity. Cameras and the police department exist so that workers dont have to confront thieves.
