That said, I do remember the Smart House Disney Channel Movie That seems like a nightmare. Haha. While I know real smart hiuses arent like that, I still dont really need one, I guess Seems expensive, and not worth it For me, at least

Zero need or desire for 'smart' things in general. I wish there were more 'dumb' TVs and smartphones on the market.

Smart switches on most of the lights, a smart thermostat on the HVAC, smart plugs on the fans, smart TVs and a smart remote for the not-smart TV, Blu-ray player, and VCR, and Amazon Echos in every room.

I started getting really interested in remote controlled stuff about 7 years ago when I got a nasty lung infection that eventually put me in the hospital. I was stuck in bed for weeks and it was difficult and painful to get up to do things like turn off the light. Now I can control the lights, fan, and thermostat from the bed.

It's sure nice to be able to do things like adjust the thermostat from the basement, turn on the outside lights from the car, or turn on the exhaust fan from the bathtub. I can also automate stuff, like turn on the fan in the barn when the temperature gets too hot. It can even act like a security system, with Alexa monitoring for the sound of glass breakage or smoke alarms and controlling the lights to make it look like someone is home.

Just one smart tv (and my smartphone which isnt really part of the house I think)

Currently in the process of trying to get a house built.

As I have told every builder I met with if they ask if I want any smart home features:

"No. I want a dumb home. I want the dumbest home ever built."

"Internet of things" is horrible and I want none of it.
In my current apartment, the thermostat can be linked to a smart phone. I didn't set it up, and I hate it, and that whole thing being forced on us is part of the reason I'm anxious to get a house and get out of here (already wanted it, this just made it a faster priority). That shit is a plausibly deniable constructive eviction (look it up) waiting to happen.

You can buy smart switches for as little as $25, and tie them into a few 3rd gen Echo Dots, $25 each (or less for used). You can have smart lighting for a typical 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for around $300-500, and you don't have to do the whole house all at once, you can do one room at a time as you can afford it. (That's what I did)

Just as far as temperature control goes, which is fine by me.

Probably smarter than me, I'm not smart enough to tell.

I'm actually pissed that 3G getting shut down has killed some of the last few "phone only" services around.

I pretty much refuse to use the "smart" features on any tech I have that have it. I have zero interest in any of the tech or appliances in my house to have those levels of accessibility.
