It is pretty wonky plot wise, since the mechanics make for non-linear storytelling. But this was a spiritual successor to CT, and it does a good job staying heavy and mature. The narrative has high stakes, given the situation that could have been played way less straight if it wanted to.

Better than Chrono Trigger at feeling like a Time Travel story with the points you can go back to.
Better characters. Stocke alone is better than every CT character combined probably.
Worse... everything else, really.

The crisp pacing of CT is gone, and in a game that seemingly gives you more freedom to play around with the time travel element due to the structure of all the lynchpins you can fiddle with, it's more glaring how little you can actually change about everything which makes it feel more like I'm solving puzzles than actually changing time. This is kind of a gripe with the gameplay really, but I think if the plot had more branches that didn't achieve the desired result it would flesh things out and make it more enjoyable. It desperately needs more endings that aren't "bad endings" like Chrono Trigger had. It also feels lower stakes than CT, which for me is a negative with a Time Travel plot-- if you're screwing with the fabric of time itself it'd better have a hefty amount of weight.

I kinda liked the story here, but I couldn't help but come out disappointed with it in the end. The game itself is probably a bit better than CT (I liked the battle system), but the plot isn't.

Well get to it for sure. My rule of thumb was six months out from release but as were running out of interesting games I am already twisting that a bit (well be doing Metroid Dread and FFXIV including Endwalker in the next few days) so we will likely get to it sooner.

Looking forward to the what did GRRM do discourse, the answer is a lot.

Wow is Shenmue III really that bad? I expected the gameplay to be dated but not the story, not that much. Yikes.

Haven't played Historia but I'm interested in it! Someone on the board warned me off of the 3DS remake with the micro$, and the og DS version is hard to find.

Nothing about Radiant Historia blew me away, but the overall story was enjoyable without any glaring issues.

3DS version is actually harder to find than the DS one:

RH 3DS goes for around $80+ used.

RH DS goes for around $50 new.

Honestly, the microtransactions are so unimportant that I forgot they were even in the game.
