Mixed breed. Pure breeds are more than likely to have issues by my understanding so vet bills will be higher.

The retro pug is a healthier breed as their muzzles aren't squished.

I like Pure bred dogs with amazing pedigrees. I appreciate and respect people that adopt dogs but thats just not for me. If ima have a companion for 10+ years(or 4 if a Great Dane, R.I.P. in peace Scooby Doo) then ima get what i want exactly as I want it.

Sorry. Not sorry.

Was going to say this. Mixed breeds/mutts tend to be healthier, because they don't have the genetic health problems or breed-specific issues a lot of purebreeds tend to crop up with.

It's basically like European royalty. The "purer" you keep the bloodline, the more fucked up your kids are likely going to be.

With a mixed breed you're also less likely to have to deal with a breeder who's charging you $1000+ for a puppy.

I personally never cared about mixed or purebreds, I always look however to know if the breed or mixed breed has a history of health issues. If so I will normal skip that at the time of looking for an animal.

mixed breed. they're often more visually distinct and interesting and a hell of a lot cheaper. My uncle bought my cousin some fuckin...pure-bred pamplemousse or some shit, for $800. I got my German Shepard-Doberman mix for a cool $50.

I'd rather the mixed breed but it depends on the dog. I had a mutt when I was a wee lad but he was super violent to anyone that got near me and my parents ended up putting him down (he went to live on a farm, that's too far away to visit) wasn't the dogs fault, the other boys that lived in town were five to ten years older and were real shits, a lot of the dogs in the village ended up aggressively violent as a result of their torment.

Mum was gifted a Maltese puppy after that, great dog, no health issues, lived nearly fifteen years. Also had an elderly pure bred Scottish terrier that was dumped on a county sideroad, after his original owner died, the towns dog catcher gifted him to us; he had to have extensive dental work and it took a couple of months before he barked for the first time, but no other issues once we got his teeth fixed, lived another five years after we took him in.

I got a mutt from an Amish farm that was practically giving them away. The shelter had made it too hard to go through them during the pandemic.

I have a pure breed (greyhound), but to be fair, I got him as an adult and I payed mixed breed price for him due to him being adopted off a race track. He is old and has degenerative myelopathy (basically kind of like arthritis, but eventually gets worse to the point of hind leg paralysis), but has never had any other major medical problems.

That said, when/if I get another dog, it will probably be a mix.

idk about other places, but here if you have a registered pure breed and it would get sent to a shelter they return it to the breeder as soon as its ID'd

To me it depends on if the dog and I click or not, but we have had purebreeds. Cocker Spaniel, Austrailian Shepherd, Shi Tzu, and I'm not sure if Maltipoos are still considered mixed or not.

As cute as certain breeds are I don't think I could ever in good faith buy from a breeder. Too many strays and shelter dogs to pay top dollar for a pup that is likely going to a good home if you don't take it. All of my family dogs and my current one have been adopted from shelters, plan to continue that in the future.

No preference. We adopt dogs that need adopting. Used to be mostly redline cases, but we are starting to slow down with age, so we more just look for the "problem" dogs now
