...or they're Hollywood celebrities, and he doesn't want to lose 50% of his assets in a divorce. Because California divorce laws are utterly bullshit.

There's also the possibility of "staying together for the kids", though that's not as much of an issue anymore. But it might have been in the past.

There's also the possibility that they're essentially over and done with, but want to stay together for PR reasons, which is why they still go to functions and stuff together. So they decided to just stay married but act like they're separated/divorced. They wouldn't be the first celebrity couple to go that route.

Not excusing Wills behaviour at all but the amount of people minimising hair loss is kind of unbelievable. The emotional distress that hair loss causes is real. Oftentimes if you have alopecia, the last thing you want is for someone to bring it up, let alone joke about it, let alone on national tv.

Believe it or not, it can be even more distressing for women because its not as common for women to lose their hair.

You can all clown on Will as much as you want but the its just hair loss attitude is wrong. His behaviour was inexcusable but the joke was insensitive especially considering this isnt the first time Chris has referenced Jadas hair loss.

Who knows - awkwardness, shock, simply not knowing how to react. Could be any number of reasons. He might actually have genuinely found it funny himself at the time and then properly processed it seconds later. Or like some people are speculating, he might have realised how it actually affected Jada and reacted to defend her. If thats the case thats obviously the wrong way to go about it but only Will knows why he laughed.

Regardless, my point is not really about Will, its about Jada. People conflating Jadas sensitivity to the alopecia joke with her cheating on Will or with Wills punch, or Will laughing at the joke etc. is kind of missing the point.

Even if it was an insensitive joke it's still a joke and not an actual attack on her, like I could understand taking it the wrong way if it was some random person but it was literally a stand up comedian, everything he says on stage should be taken as a joke, not some serious attack.

I have to wonder how much of the slap was a result of the Scientology indoctrination he went through. I know he and Jada have been out since 2015 and Will only "dabbled" but part of Scientology's teachings involve slapping those that offend you.

Spend an afternoon with someone who has alopecia and then tell them its just a joke, its not an attack on you when they get called out on national tv for something they have no control over and that already causes them daily if not hourly distress.

The constant readjustment of wigs, hats, having to worry about meeting new people and general daily self consciousness. Im struggling to understand how you cant see that if something causes someone so much anxiety and insecurity on a daily basis, its not okay to ridicule them over it on national tv unprovoked. Especially if were to believe reports that this isnt the first hes targeted Jada for her hair loss.

The its just a joke/its just hair loss thing is bizarre. People are going so far out of their own way and bending over backwards to minimise this issue I find it strange.

Oh for god sakes...
It's just hair loss! Millions of men suffer from it and "baldy" jokes have always been a thing.
Comedians have routinely made fun of far worse shit and no one cared.

Believe it or not, it can be even more distressing for women because its not as common for women to lose their hair.
Jada has videos where she says she shaved it all off and won't wear a wig b/c she's not ashamed of it. Apparently she likes collecting the internet brownie points for being "stunning and brave" but does actually care, a lot.
And you could say that about any health/body issue less common for a gender/race/whatever.
Men are usually taller than women. So it must be especially hurtful to make fun of a short dude for being short, I guess that needs to stop, too?

You can all clown on Will as much as you want but the its just hair loss attitude is wrong. His behaviour was inexcusable but the joke was insensitive especially considering this isnt the first time Chris has referenced Jadas hair loss.
When else has he referenced it?
And supposedly all the jokes are planned ahead and rehearsed. Will didn't have a problem with it. Until Jada did. Then he had to do something so she wouldn't be mad at him.
Their whole family is fucking toxic. Their son was on twitter right after bragging, "that's how we do it!" Will was happily dancing at the after party, like nothing happened before.
And Jada is the worst of them all, constantly belittling and humilating Will on top of the cheating, and supposedly August was suffering from mental health issues (you know, the thing people claim she's suffering over fucking hair loss) and was staying w/ the Smiths for help or something, which makes her hooking up w/ a guy her son's age even more fucking creepy.

Fatal is right. This more than likely isnt the first time Chris made a joke like this and Will warned him not to do it again. These guys both grew up in the same era and are highly successful actors so they definitely have hung out many times before. Its like a friend habitually line stepping and Will had to channel his inner Tupac and slap his wifes name out of his mouth.

Does anyone find it mildly amusing that despite possibly being on the brink of World War III, the internet has decided to completely shift its attention to one rich man slapping another rich man? I feel like there's some commentary to be made here, but I'm not sure what exactly.

It's the Controversy Circus. The public has an INCREDIBLY short attention span. It's sad to say, but people are bored about hearing about Russia and Ukraine. In a week or two, nobody will care about this. Then some other controversy will happen.

I'd probably ask both of my parents what the fuck they were doing in that scenario, because that would be incredibly bizarre behavior from both of them. My father's mental illness aside, both of my parents are very amiable people.
Yeah, not really enough detail for me to make a judgment call. I've forgiven worse from both my parents, though. *shrug*

It makes it easier to absolve people who mock others' bodies and disabilities because they can't come up with jokes worth hearing. I don't even like it when people mock Trump's body and I fucking hate Trump.

Celebrities always take a disproportionate amount of news coverage, and most of the time their news consists of "This person wore this outfit. This person got this haircut. This person hugged a panda. This person ate at this restaurant. This person sneezed on camera last night." So it's not surprising but the conversation's already been done to death at this point.

Basically all jokes have a victim, the issue comes when people punch down. No one is going to laugh at someone making fun of cancer patients or something. Chris Rock wasn't punching down here.

If she was genuinely hurt by what he said she has the platform to express that as a celebrity, instead she sent her cuck of a husband up to slap a man on international television.

this may be true but it doesnt explain why he was laughing at the joke and a split second later hes pissed and slapping

my only thought in this is that it was the Oscars editing, they were constantly reusing edits of celebrities laughing at jokes to make it look better. Maybe the Will Smith laughing cut was from earlier in the show
