How they don't "reprint" kits. Once the run is done, thats it.

I understand how they can't rerelease every set every year or two, but at least do it for the bigger or popular ones.

I would love a repeat of the old 90s pirates.

I wanted that big pirate ship so bad, but could only afford the little island tower set with the row boat.

It would be nice to see the Millennium Falcon at retail instead of the markup from the bloody scalpers and speculators who have inflated it to more then ten times what it originally sold at. I don't think it ever actually made it to the shelves of any the local stores, was sold out before the store employees even knew they had it.

I don't remember which ones I had. I know I had some of the ones that came with the flat islands.

You can look through the pirate sets by year, starts here:

https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Pirates/year-1989

I found the ones I had: 6263-1 Imperial Outpost, 1889-1 Pirate Treasure Hold

I had forgotten I had two of them, and I'm trying to remember what happened to the monkey; I think my sister stole and lost it.

My problem with Legos is when people buy pre-built kits and build them according to a specific plan rather than just buying a whole bucket of them and building their own unique designs using their imagi-nation.

Even as a kid, it always seemed kind of pointless to me to buy a set and build it like a model rather than taking advantage of their modularity to just do whatever.

If the sold a big bucket of minifigs then that would work better.

This is just completely wrong.

Now granted, there aren't as many and they do make a lot of licensed stuff, but this was literally 30 seconds on Walmart.com to find.

I'm pretty sure this is the pirate ship set I had.

https://brickset.com/sets/6289-1/Red-Beard-Runner

My parents bought me a shitload of Lego, but the notable ones I can remember are Native Americans vs. Cowboys fort, X-Wing, and Tie-Fighter(they might've been a set, but I don't remember).

I always wanted the underwater dive sets or w/e they're called, but they either never had the sets or something.

Fair enough - but this is a great teaching tool for real-life skills. You are expected to receive a set of drawings and put something together based on them. (at least in my industry) It's really a great way to teach that skill growing up.

^ This

Growing up I had 2 Lego "sets": A giant bucket (I want to say 200 - 300 pieces) and a pirate ship kit. I probably played with the bucket for tens if not hundreds of hours. The kit I built once, then went on to something else.

If I am only going to use it once, I would get something cheaper like a jigsaw puzzle.

Way overpriced..I can remember back when Legos were not popular at all if you were older than like ten. Shortly after they got really popular, the big sets went from like$25-$50 to $100-$200. The greed is even worse now.

IIRC LEGO doesn't outsource any of their manufacturing? That probably has a lot to do with the high prices.

Acktchually, thats not really the case. Those always come in waves. Theres still plenty of non-licensed sets available.

Well, for people like me who dont have a creative bone in their body, the sets are still a lot of fun to put together and they look neat.

I think I only had those. I can't remember ever having the ship itself. I know I had both pirate and the navy minifigs but don't think I had the fortress.

Unlike a model, you can rebuild it. It's like a puzzle.

And keep Magi-Nation out of this! =(

Especially when it essentially becomes a one off part that is never used in any other set ever again, thus making it impossible to recreate it with after market pieces.
