and now it can't connect via wifi to the internet. It either gives me one phantom bar or none, or sometimes cannot even find the network.

Wifi works just fine on my phone anywhere in my house. my PC connects just fine when in the room with the router.

what are my options? I didn't really attempt to move the PC from the one spot in the other room I put it in, maybe that could work....

My Wireless adapter with directional antennas that cost me like $50 works worse than my Raspberry Pi so I just use my Pi to forward internet traffic to my PC and PS3.

I seem to remember a time when we used an empty pringles can to boost our wifi. I'm sure there are tutorials. It was really effective when we did it.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

This is the main question. If you can't connect with anything in that spot (the specific location of your PC's antenna), it's a dead zone and you'll need to move (that, or reconfigure the pipes, wires, and structural elements that are creating the problem, but that's probably not practical). If you can connect with other devices in that spot, your PC's wireless antenna needs an upgrade.

I had the same situation a couple months ago: Wi-Fi router was moved to a different floor, PC wouldnt find the signal while the phone had no problem.

External PC antenna fixed it right up.

If you have a custom prebuilt computer, there may be an external antenna in all the extras that they send along with the PC.

Yeah most PC's need an added antenna, my mother board came with one that somewhere. I always use hard wire for my TVs and PC

This is something I had to explain like 40 times to my mom and dad

check the line of sight. if there's a fridge or microwave in the way (for example) you'll have problems.

if you have antennas (on either side), remember it's the edge of the antenna that transmits, not the end. the direction the antenna points actually has poor reception. the reception is in a cylinder-ish shape circling around the edge.

make sure to use the 5G/better version if you have more than one wifi being broadcast. make sure your wireless on your PC is actually something modern, and not 802.11g or something.

run a cable instead

okay i found my ethernet.

the problem here is I need to connect it to my router by placing my router and stretching the power cord almost as far as it can go.

It's like I get a 30ft connect, but with acrobatics to make it work >_>

You can try a powerline adapter, which might be easier instead of trying to do acrobatics with a 30ft ethernet cable. Powerline adapters basically use the electrical wiring in your house to move the communication signals.

Router -> 1st ethernet cable -> Powerline adapter
Powerline adapter in your PC room -> 2nd ethernet cable -> your PC

Not sure if it'll be a cheaper option though.

I used wired connections with my wifi. If you're going wireless, make sure there's no obstacles in the way or the signal won't pass through which is one of the many drawbacks of wifi.
