Well there's my point. Why would they be for it when, as you allege, they operate completely outside of the day/night cycle?

Because they'd rather have the sunlight at night than in the morning when they are not using it.

Just because you stay up until 2 in the morning doesn't mean you wouldn't rather it be light an hour later, and you sure as hell don't give a damn about people who have to get up early.

I'm curious. What are those?
Off the top of my head:
  • Year-round DST means the sun will rise very late in winter, which will make it harder for people to properly wake up, leading to an increase in car accidents. And kids will have to go to school in the dark, but I suppose American kids don't walk or bike to school anyway.
  • DST also means the sun sets very late in summer (this is of course also a problem with the "changing clocks twice a year" variant), which makes it hard for people to fall asleep.
  • Of course there is also the "omg standard time = correct time, sun should be in the south at 12 o'clock out of principle" thing but that's probably the worst argument.

Many do, especially in cities. Kids getting hit was one of the things that soured public opinion on it the last time we tried it.

Do you allege that these CEmen would "use" sunlight if it existed when they were awake? If they're up at all hours of the night, what use have they for sunlight? I feel like this snipe of yours is kinda falling apart.

A) I do get up early. Usually six, but sometimes five.

B) You're just making things up to support your whining. It's unbecoming.

As stated, the clock switching has a major macro-economic impact every time it happens.

You could probably always find something that's deemed as more pressing than this, but Congress should not be entirely about one issue all the time. Congress is constantly cycling through the various issues that we're facing; otherwise, things would be even slower than they are now.

I think the main complaint is that changing the time screws up your internal clock, not that it is too difficult to physically change the time on the clocks.
I've personally have never had trouble waking up at any specific time I wanted without a alarm. But if everyones clock's aren't as good then they should be relying on said alarms always as back up and if so this is a non issue still.

are kids really lining up in the streets like bowling pins in the morning enough of an issue to screw up having light for everyone? I remember hating the sun going down so early when I was a kid. I'd just get home and it was cold and dark at 5:30 and I'd fall asleep. it also meant that when I waited for city busses after school that creepy figures would be walking around, making up stories asking for money and shit.

I'm not saying they are farmers lol I'm saying they are lazy and sleep all day or don't have a job that makes them get up early. If you don't understand why someone who wakes 100% of the time when it is sunlight would be for the sun staying out an hour later vs earlier benefits them, idk what to tell you.

I've always liked the opposite, I hate waking up and going to work in the pitch black. If this passes, sunrise will be after 8am in the winter. I don't really care if the sun sets early in the winter, it's like 20 degrees outside. What am I going to do.

Also I really have to appreciate that they went for permanent DST instead of just removing DST. Removing DST would have been a pretty obvious solution and is done by a bunch of countries and regions today. No one has permanent DST today.

But sun setting later >>> sun rising earlier and they went for the better choice despite it not being as obvious. Good on them.

My opinion too. I was watching C-SPAN this weekend when they were doing the hearing on this and there were pretty decent arguments for one or the other. It is worth a listen to I think. But the point is either is much, much more preferable than the back-and-forth we do now.

I kind of feel like a lot of people ITT are confused about what daylight savings time is. Were in daylight savings time now, when we spring ahead.

I like this because it stays lighter longer, and its dark in the morning so I dont have the sun blaring in my face on the way to work (which I cant stand). And idk why but when the sun is out longer it just makes doing things more appealing than when it gets dark at like 4:30.

It's not just kids.

Driving in the dark (and just as the sun is rising) is statistically more dangerous than driving after sunrise.

A majority of kids are home from school, or indoors by the time it gets dark in the winter.
