First time playing it (GBA version).

I just got to the Magitek facility and am about to fight Ifrit and Shiva.

Like what percentage through the story would you say?

Also, are these 8 dragons I've read about part of the story or are they sidequests in the world of ruin?

not very far, you're about 2/3's of the way through the first half.

Optional content, as is a lot of the content in the WoR. The WoR is less linear in nature and the vast majority of its content is technically optional.

You're like 60% through the first half of the game. Here's the thing about the second half of the game. A lot of it is optional/non-linear.

You can technically beat the game with only three characters - once you get the airship you can go straight to the end.

In practice, that's probably a good recipe for getting killed. You kind of need the extra bodies and level grinding to survive.

I can't remember since I don't have as much experience with the GBA version as the SNES version, are stats still broken, so the only thing you want to raise is Magic?

Does anyone know if the pixel remaster isn't complete sin against nature? So far the other ones have been acceptable, but FF6 is a special case due to the SNES version's graphical fidelity (which was captured on the GBA, although it lost some sound quality)

The previous FF6 PC port was nearly complete trash if you focus mostly on the character sprites (vomit), but honestly some of the monster sprites and backgrounds did look better... not many, but some!

I have heard completely mixed responses about it. Saw one person say it was amazing, saw someone else say it was trash. I would just look up some footage of it (I heard the opera scene was made into a 3D set like from Octopath Traveler???? I don't know how I feel about that, tbh).

Yes, in the Pixel Remaster version the opera scenes were redone in the Octopath HD 2D/3D style, and also all the singing is voiced.

It's bad. It's really bad. Wtf is this? This version is terrible. What have they done?! I've heard versions of that song that literally made me weep, this is absolute ass, this is a travesty what the actual f-

squeenix is only arguably good for FF14 anymore. i'd maybe give a pass to FFX even though i don't like it, but the series has been bad for a very, very long time and it shows most obviously in their attempts at remakes.

I liked the Pixel Remaster for I, intend on playing II on GBA, III Pixel Remaster, but from my reading I think I prefer GBA for IV V and VI. From videos the PSP versions sound great.

I would say you are about 1/3 of the way through if you decide to do almost everything in the game. There are a few things you can skip in the 2nd 1/2 of the game. I beat SNES version FFVI to death last century, and I usually wanted to do everything in the game.

Don't rush yourself, man! This is one of the best games ever.

squeenix is only arguably good for FF14 anymore. i'd maybe give a pass to FFX even though i don't like it, but the series has been bad for a very, very long time and it shows most obviously in their attempts at remakes.

They make other games outside of FF and some of them are pretty damn solid.

Obligatory plug for BTB's Brave New World mod.

TC, once you're done playing the original I highly recommend playing the Brave New World mod for the SNES version.

It fixes a lot of the issues the original has, where everyone in the end is just spamming Ultima, by restricting the espers to certain characters. It also fixes the stats and abilities so that each character's unique abilities, like Blitzes, Bushido, Rages, etc. are completely viable and powerful options as well. It makes each character unique and makes you think more about proper party composition and strategies, rather than just picking whoever has the highest Mag stat.

Plus, even though it's the SNES version, it managed to include the 8 dragons + Ragnarok side content as well.

Parasite Eve (Though not many games recently.)
Chrono Series (Same as Parasite Eve.)
Dragon Quest spin-off games like Builders or Monsters, not super popular but solid.

If we count games published by Square-Enix the list gets a lot longer.

still a lot of EH for me. i don't count the ones that haven't gotten a new game in decades, even though i loved chrono trigger. i'm talking the new stuff.
