Do you think guys who take up sewing make them a wuss?

19 y/o Wyatt Miller from La Ronge, Saskatchewan, Canada was a former high school quarterback (yes, there is football in Canada) who took up SEWING during the pandemic after he was in lockdown for nearly 2 years and has now launched his own clothing line..despite trolls now calling him a WUSSY and GRANDMA for his passion!!

He spent most of his life focused on sports and football was definitely going to be part of that..until the pandemic hit and sports was basically cancelled at this final years of high school..

So she discovered people making clothing on tiktok and inspired to do it himself and launched his own brand "Sparked Apparel" that he runs out of his basement and sells on instagram

He knew how to sew already since 9th grade Home Ec class where cooking and sewing were mandatory for junior high students.

With the basics down he tried his hand at making a shirt and documented it on his tiktok as people were impressed by his skills. When his Mom asked what he wanted for christmas, he asked for a $100 sewing machine so he could make all his clothes instead"

He also works part time cleaning a hospital and taught himself how to sew clothes now and selling to people online.

Unfortunately, since sewing is now his career path, football is now over for him and sports in general and that didn't go so well for male trolls online who called him a wuss and a grandma getting involved in a "girl's job"

He hopes in the next few years he can sign a lease and open a storefront locally and would be awesome if a big name star like Justin Bieber would wear his clothing...

He's now going to FASHION DESIGN school and knows most of the people there will be girls but says it will at least be easy to get a DATE.

Do you think guys who take up sewing make them a wuss?

So it is random people insulting him? Because honestly I think most people would find it pretty cool that he was able to find something he was passionate about.

I don't think sewing is all that manly but I also don't think you lose your man card because you aren't 100% manly in every way possible

So no, it doesn't make you a wuss

Dont know if J Beiber will wear his clothes, being completely honest the designs are kind of hideous with how much they clash.

Sewing is a crazy smart/useful skill. Takes a lot of practice and patience to do it well but its worth learning for sure.

We should get rid of ideals like this. We shouldnt really be considering things like sewing masculine or feminine, tbh

While I agree that they arent for me, I can see a big name star wearing it. I mean, have you seen some of the things a few famous people wear. Some of it looks like it shouldnt be clothes That said, some stars will help out people like this just because. Since hes basically getting Cyberbullied, I sure a few celebrities might help out

Of course they clash. That seems to be the entire concept of his designs. "Look how starkly these things clash" a lot of "high end" fashion is all about being garish, shocking, making a statement etc. Stuff that looks like garbage bags, thongs worn outside of clothing, etc.

I agree. As long as you have fabric, thread and a sewing machine (or a needle and pincushion) you can make and/or repair items, which sometimes can be more affordable than buying them a second time. For instance many people made cloth masks during the pandemic, which helped to keep family members from getting Covid-19 (at least temporarily) until production of N-95 ramped up enough to where everyone could get them. A stopgap measure, true, but better than the option of going without and possibly coming down with Covid-19. A little effective is better than going without as far as I'm concerned.

That and cook. I was half-decent at sewing back when we covered it in our Home Ec equivalent in junior high, but pretty much all of that is gone now because I didn't use or practice those skills at all through high school or beyond. I should really make an effort to relearn it, since I've got some jeans that need patching (I tend to wear holes in the crotches).

Indeed. There's absolutely zero benefit to gendering basic life skills, whether it's sewing or carpentry. Everyone should be taught everything. Those that are in relationships can defer to their partner to handle the skills that their partner is better at, but doing that pre-emptively on the basis of gender instead of based on who's more capable is just stupid. That means single people are out of luck, as are those in same-sex relationships (not that the sort of people that give guys a hard time for sewing typically consider same-sex relationships legitimate), plus you end up with a bunch of people who just aren't great at a given skill doing it because their partner has never learned how.

Of course, with the Internet around, learning is easier than ever even without broader educational efforts, which is gradually solving the gendering issue. Now, we just have to wait for it to become normalized.

I know how to sew, so I don't think it's bad to know but it's still a traditionally feminine skill. There are feminine things everyone should know and masculine things that everyone should know.
