It's hardly an outlier. Zoroa line is also still missing, might be more gen v lines. Still a few mythicals in gen 4 and they only ever gave Rotom in washing machine form at a paid event. Kecleon remains unreleased.

I actually have good feelings about all 3 starters. Quaxly is my least favorite design but the concept behind it and its name are 10/10

I dunno. Legends is the best in a while (way behind on that because I had to send my Joy-Con in due to drift) but the main series has lost its appeal for me. The starters look okay. The player characters look like typical Anime middle school kids. I'll wait and see how the gameplay looks. If it's more like Legends than Sword, I'll definitely get it.

You know... At this point, I'm really surprised they haven't made a dog or puppy starter pokemon yet. Sure they usually have a dog pokemon, but it's always an early poke that you can get, why doggos never get to be a starter?

We all know the game is going to look like ass and have insane frame drops all the time.

I just want it to be fun.

I would say they just did Grass/Fighting with Hisuian Decidueye, but we all know they don't care if they repeat the starter combinations.

Also I'm weirdly disappointed they showed normal Meowth. I kinda liked the idea of every region adding a new Meowth variant. Would've been even funnier if it evolved into a new variant of Perrserker.

at minimum it shouldve been the Galar Meowth again if fake Spain is near fake England... like why is the fake Japanese one everywhere except for fake England?

Also yes there better be customization available early. I do not want to play as that dweeb any longer than I have to, lol.

What is the significance of those titles? I never thought of Scarlet and Violet to go together particularly like B/W, X/Y, Sw/Sh

This game has me super confused as to how development is working at Game Freak right now. Like, the general thinking was that the main team was doing Arceus while the remake team did BDSP, right? But this sure looks like there was significant overlap both timewise and in terms of design elements.

BDSP wasn't developed by Game Freak. It was made by ILCA, the Pokemon Home developer.

Well that shows what I know! I'm still very curious about the obvious overlap with Arceus here, unless Arceus wasn't done by the main team and they were just using it as a testbed for next gen stuff?

Thoughts-

-Just learned that only the Japanese Pokemon media channels announced the Pokemon Presents. Considering how big the news we got were, this is very weird. Maybe this has to do with Russia-Ukraine? idk

-That Pikachu doll looks like a Pikachu from a live-action film so I expected news about one, but nope

-Yay Alola in Pokemon GO...but as someone here stated, why is Gen 5 still unfinished? even worse why they didn't bring any new missing Gen 4 Mythical to tie in with BDSP or Arceus? I mean Shaymin would be perfect now. Arceus would have been perfect a month ago. Manaphy/Phione would have been perfect 3 months ago. Zorua and Kecleon are probably saved for some gimmick new feature. Larvesta missing is weird

-Never played Masters and Cafe Mix. I am still suffering from Shuffle PTSD and I am not going to check other Pokemon mobile games (besides GO) in the near future lol

-Yay Oak's Letter. Now waiting for Darkrai and Arceus

-Free Update for Arceus...now? but I just finished playing it yesterday..! oh well let's see what it has to offer. From what I read there is some "Master Trainers" bullshit here. If it's as bad as it was in Let's GO then no thank you

-I didn't see anyone here talking about this, but "original storyline" for the Anime means what exactly? Every time there is a new storyline people expect Ash to be gone so I should know better...but...who knows?
Edit - oh scratch that I missed the part that it's a "online animated series" which means a short and not a main Anime season
But it's made by Wit Studio so hopes are high...!

-Yay Gen 9! and it looks like it's using the Arceus engine. Although we still don't know how the gameplay will be.

-At first I thought the starters were fucking ugly but after looking at fanarts and the official arts they grew on me...fast. This usually happens so I shouldn't judge them at first sight

-Regular Meowth is surprising. So we won't get a regional Meowth in every gen...!

-The new trainers designs are so boring. They even look the same. There is a very minimal difference in the face (eyelashes?) and hair and that's it. Super boring. Even NFT generated characters has more personality

-No Pokemon Sleep and Detecive Pikachu 2 news. It's been 3 years since the initial reveal..

-No news about Pokemon HOME compatability with BDSP and Arceus

I think that's probably what's happening. Two dev teams, one working on an experimental game (Arceus) while the other one makes a more traditional mainline game. They say it's open world but I'm guessing it'll lean more towards the Wild Area than Arceus.

For what it is worth, it was explicitly said Arceus was not open world and that SV are open world. So, it sounds like SV is going to be more open world than Arceus was.

Ah right. So SV is going to be one continuous world. That's good...

But if I still get fucking invisible Pokemon jumping out at me in tall grass and dragging me tediously into another dimension to battle them, after having played Arceus, I'm going to be pissed. They cannot go back to that shit now.

Theres a snippet of an email going around that basically says yes to your speculation, that there was too much going on to stop the announcement train completely but they wanted to be respectful so they shut up about it for the most part (the worldwide socials did finally post about the presentation shortly before it started, as seen below).

I honestly prefer the older battle system for the traditional games. Arceus is nice, but being able to run around in battle would be pointless in the main games, and I wasn't a fan of the camera angles it caused. Like, I'd probably be okay if they did away with the full transitions to the "battle" screen, but otherwise I'd want the battles to play more like the other gens.

At least get rid of the transitions and the slow sending out of a Pokmon

I hope they keep Agile/Strong style.

I really hope it has a Pokedex like X/Y or S/S and not like Arceus. It got really underwhelming exploring the fourth and fifth areas and seeing so many repeats. An open world needs to have way more variety than that to keep it interesting.

Oh I'm fine with not running around in battle, that's not a necessary feature. I'm not fine with how much time and money I lose in an average playthrough dealing with repels and dogshit Pokemon I have no interest in trying to battle me

It needs to stop. It might even be a dealbreaker for me now they've shown they can move past it. I fucking hate it.

Even in Sword and Shield repels weren't really that useful. I guess the non-map screen encounters could be a problem if you were looking for a specific Pokemon and had to sift through a bunch of them.

Yes this. Arceus is so much faster that going back to mashing through text would be hard
They also got super lazy with the battle backgrounds so if they hate making then so much, they can do it like in Arceus and we all win
