I just got to Godric at 15h, level 32. Feels like I'm going real slow, and I'm afraid at the amount of content here! But everything has been top notch so far.

I do think there's way too much here for a new Souls player though.

Yeah the gray haired bats are a bad time. Give a ton of souls, though

Claymore is at +15 and everything's dying

I cannot find the last fire for Siofra River. But I did find an emblem behind an optional boss there that anyone going a pure offensive mage build may enjoy.

Just switched to the greatsword, who needs to dodge when you can just stunlock your foes into oblivion. It's only +1 so some things die in three hits but the new combo looks sick.

Need to find some more smithing stones so I can upgrade this baby and make things die in one hit.

Is there a way to farm weapon shards or is there a set amount? Also man I am worried about side quests. This map is massive and I am worried on missing questlines and stuff from taking out bosses.

i literally just got done with that area. I think the fires were all in the same general region, so I guess just look over the area again?

also fought that boss and he was one shotting me, so I had to be super careful keeping my distance, but I pulled it off. Felt good.

I think at some point you can probably buy weapon shards, but I havent beeen able to yet. There are some miner enemies that I think can drop them too

So that optional boss at Siofra River, specifically Dragonkin I found a way to get stuck in his right leg and every attack he did it would just whiff and keep me in that spot to keep attacking lol. Worked for the first half of his hp and then my bleed popped but then he starts doing the ground slam and then you gotta do the rest the regular way

Ive heard both that theres a merchant who sells shards, and that you can upgrade the merchants at the roundtable to get them to sell shards too

Finally got invaded by a human and was soooo close to getting him. No more flasks and 1-2 hits left. Pressed the wrong button accidentally and he got me :[

What happened to the no-flasks convention anyways??

Hmm. Thanks. I swear I've circled the place on my horse two dozen times, but maybe killing everything and going slowly on foot is what I need.

There are enemies that drop upgrade mats and npcs that sell them, too. You'll never fully lock yourself out, except for maybe the final upgrade. Souls games generally limit that tier.
If you have a special weapon that takes somber stones, there's an npc that sells some of those too. Keep your eyes open near one of the ruins on the way on the east side as you head north, after the temple quarter.

Legit getting in super uncomfortable in the red part of the map. I do not like being here. The music is making me stressed.

But I managed to make it to the grinding area. Don't want to break the game so just got 5 level out of it for now.

Also did that Mariner quest for the old dude at the round table and now I have a Miracle Crest that causes my incantation to scale off of strength. Baller.

Tutorial messages you see are all added to your inventory on the rightmost tab but it was probably about Great Runes.

Starting to get worried I'm going to get overwhelmed. That's a lot.

It might just be my way of exploring. But I feel like the difficulty spike from area to area is greater than what it usually is in Soulsborne games.

Oh no, madness is basically a lower damaging frenzy however it stuns you in place for like 20 minutes. It struck me randomly while killing some rats. A while later I discovered the cause, the eye of sauron!

If only that had been the end of it. Apparently you can utilize madness yourself, just got killed by an npc invader who two shot me. Once madness hit he had all the time in the world to prepare a killing blow.

I think I either don't know how to read maps or I haven't explored that part of the world yet?

So far I feel less overwhelmed and more like I'm missing out - I find a note somewhere as part of a storyline, or I talk to like a dozen NPCs that need help finding another NPC, etc. and I don't really remember those quests and am probably missing things. I don't love the idea of having to look up online what's going on, but even then I don't even remember all the stuff I have to go online to look up. At the same time, I respect that this developer does not want a minimap with a bunch of icons. I guess with a vast open world, it feels a little too arbitrary as to what optional quests I finish.

I guess my other "gripe" is that as a non-Souls player I don't really know what the stats and the equipment values really mean. I can probably look this stuff up, no big deal, but every time I get new equipment I don't always feel like I know how to evaluate it.

All the stats should be viewable by pressing square or going into a menu.

I mean there are still issues with too many things, but the stats should be self explanatory

On the ps version, while in the menu screen for equipment you can press down on the big middle button for explanations. Use the d pad to go to the stat in question that you want to know more about.

I always just check the stat requirements, then if I can use it, I'll test it out on basic enemies and if I like it enough then I'll start comparing stats to my current weapon.

Honestly markers on people you have already met is probably adequate. Marking things you have already found is fine imo

I would definitely appreciate a hey you already did the thing here marker on these catacombs and stuff after you beat the boss

im going to end up wasting all my map markers just marking the places Im done with

honestly this is my only real complaint with the game, and I haven't even doubled up on any dungeons yet. I thought about it after clearing the first few. I just know in 30 hours I probably will end up at one I beat >_>

they should have a "teleport to end of dungeon" warp at the front of dungeons you've cleared in case you forget to grab a chest or something - also acts as a cleared dungeon sign

I guess what I mean is that I don't really get what the values on the armor really equate to, and the upgrades seem small. Weapons are done just fine and you can easily go test them out. I guess I'm less overwhelmed by the map and move overwhelmed by "this armor has +0.3 Fire and -0.3 Pierce" which probably sounds absurd, I get it.

I'm also still not a wizard on the ashes of war, but, I realize that's a "neon" problem.

care less about the armor stats and more about how well they look on your character and how much it affects your rolling

I mostly dont pay super close attention to the little details of the armor numbers, unless Im going into a situation where I know Im dealing with something specific
like oh no this Dragon is doing a lot of fire, better put on my fire gear

When I search for armor stats, the first few guides basically say "ignore the stats, let's talk about load and iframes". I wish I looked at that before today haha.

I believe that is based on the weight and it tells you that on the right side of the screen how encumbered you are

I haven't noticed a huge difference between light and medium equip load in this game, am I dumb?

I also have 0 good light armor, until I pump endurance my light load armor is the prisoner starting shirt and nothing else <_<

I have jellyfish

I've read that upgraded jellyfish can do work on Magrit but I don't know - I had troubles getting the summon in the first place and haven't used it. I guess I'd work on getting wolves and getting them upgraded.

Also make sure you have the wonderous physick flask and you have used your seeds to bump up your flask uses. If you still need a boost, look up Magrit shackles, it's an item you can get that stuns him twice in phase 1. Honestly when I beat him, I felt less like a big 1v1 boss fight and more like I was DD/CC on a dungeon boss.

When I first played Dark Souls I focused way too much on what armor I was wearing and honestly it was a bad move. In the end the only things that really mattered was what my equip weight was, stacking poise if I was going for heavy armor, and sometimes I would go for resistances when in certain areas (like if I knew I was going to into an encounter with a lot of fire, or poison, I'd stack that defense). Aside from that the armor stats seemed arbitrary and pointless. Elden Ring feels the same, I haven't changed my starting armor at all yet since the weight is light enough for me and that's all that matters now. Just wear what you like.

Yeah, same! I thought I was at light weight until I saw in the menu I was actually medium weight. So I unequipped stuff to get to light, and noticed no real change. You probably get more i-frames, but man was med weight speed buffed. Probably because it was pretty useless before...
