It's like if I told you humans were born in Antarctica. Did Nirn have an ice age or something?

I kinda got the impression humans were leaving Atmora due to it becoming colder, but I don't know if it is ever really specified.

*Shrug* I mean you got places like Iceland being fairly habitable despite being so far north due to currents so maybe something similar?

There's also at least some implication if you read really deep into the lore that they weren't humans who left Atmora. They were dragons that became humans when they first landed in Skyrim.

Ayup, that's it.

  • Resist Frost: Your Nord blood gives you 50% resistance to frost.

So basically the race is magically able to live in the freezing cold.

Im not even sure how Argonians are able to function properly in a cold place like Skyrim. They must be slightly different than ordinary lizards. I do have a head canon that if they are werewolves, the cold doesnt effect them as much. (Why the heck would reptiles turn into freaking wolves?! Werecrocodiles are a thing in Elder Scrolls lore. Is it location based?)

I mean there's probably somebody living in Atmora, but overall it's a barren, frozen wasteland.

The awful thing is that wikipedia article is written as if it's real and not some fantasy shit.

The Savage Land is a hidden prehistoric land appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is a tropical preserve hidden in Antarctica. It has appeared in many story arcs in Uncanny X-Men as well as related books.

If you were born and raised in Atmora and you had to deal with that shit your whole life its probably not a big deal. People live in places like Russia, Canada, Alaska, the Midwest, etc. In real life too so its not that crazy.

No, the awful thing is that they write those sorts of articles in chronological order of events in-universe, not based on when stories were told in real time, which means terrible modern retcons are woven directly into the description right from the beginning.

It seems like modern writers are just so bad at writing anything interesting, their go-to strategy is to constantly go back and break things that other better writers wrote decades ago. Which is sad.

Pretty sure most of the really old "lore" is all bullshit. Like how the Tsaesci "ate all the men in Akavir" but it's implied that "ate" really means "dominated the culture of."
Like Tiber Septim had Akavirii soldiers in his armies, and they weren't snake people

It also doesn't help that a lot of the old lore was basically written by a single guy, and he was kind of an insane genius. But he doesn't work there now so the current staff has to try and figure out what he intended and what stuff meant and whether or not they still consider certain things canon or not.

But it's also a setting very heavy with ideas of transformation and metaphysical bullshit, so it's also hard to tell what's supposed to be metaphor and what's supposed to be literal. And whether the in-game information sources you're reading are even accurate, or just someone in-universe misinterpreting things.

I mean, the underlying plot of the Thalmor in Skyrim is that they're effectively trying to kill God and destroy the universe so they can go back to being gods themselves. But no one ever explicitly says that or spells it out for you. So it sort of comes across like the Thalmor are just kind of assholes. Meanwhile you yourself are a pseudo-reincarnation of multiple people (including a god) because reincarnation and avatarhood works really, really weirdly in the Elder Scrolls universe. So most people miss the deeper themes. Especially if they don't have the patience to read every single book they come across (and obsessively string bits and pieces of info together across multiple games).
