I would suggest starting out with a cheaper bass and learning how to play, and if you want to stick with then buy a more expensive one.

I want to just say YEEEEEE DO IT, but this is probably the better answer. I've been practicing on the same $300 bass for like 8 years.

I had a $100 guitar for a year then a $300 guitar for 12 and got a $2000 guitar and love it.

I guess can do same way with a bass.

This. No sense spending that kind of money on something you might not even like.

Does the benefit you'll get from it personally justify the expense to you?

If yes then why do you care what people think lol

Presumably, this is the question he's looking to get feedback on. Not having played bass, he presumably doesn't know what benefit he'll get for $3000. Had the feedback been "it'll make it easier/more enjoyable to learn," that would have been cause to go for it. Where the feedback is "you probably won't notice a difference unless you stick with it for a while," that's a good reason not to.

Well feedback from us isn't related to his personal fulfillment. That's something only he can decide. That's why I said personal justification.

Feedback can help with that. He's ultimately the only one that can decide how much he values whatever traits a more expensive one would have, but he can't do that without being informed what those traits are.

If you have never played a bass, why spend $3,000 when you get a great bass for far less than that.

If you can afford it reasonably (not like technically can afford it, but can afford it without feeling a squeeze) then go ahead. Otherwise, fuck no. You can determine if you like playing bass on a much less expensive instrument.

Having money to waste doesn't make wasting money a good idea. It just makes it a less bad idea.

If you have never played bass I don't think spending 3k on a one is a good idea. I assume you could afford a 3k bass, so I would suggest buying one around 700, this will get you a high quality instrument. If you stick with it you could buy the 3k bass down the line if you really want.
