Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior.

If they cured the difficulties "Person A" had with social interaction, and communication and reduced the need they had with restricted and repetitive behavior - "Person A" wouldn't magically change as a person just like that.
"Person A" would still be the same person, with the same personality. Person A would just be able to change their behaviors more easily.
Obviously eventually that could lead to a different "Person A" through divergence than if this "Person A whose difficulties weren't cured" from this hypothetical point in time - but that's a different conversation.

The above, is also, why - even if this chip "magically" sorted out all the Autistic neurodevelopmental issues - anyone who was unable to function in society without care, prior to this magically chip - would need many years of therapy to even begin to function in society with care. They would need to be taught again, from scratch - but they would be given a chance to, which they are barred from, at the moment.

So what words do you use to distinguish between somebody with autism who can function in society and take care of themselves versus somebody with autism who is entirely non-verbal and unable to care for even the most basic of needs themselves?

What about depression*? AFAIK that affects the brain and its development, and can have a major impact on your "personality".

The focus on "it's my personality" seems a bit knee-jerk; your personality has probably changed a decent amount over your life as-is and you're still here. Just a sort of weird (but reasonable to get, I suppose) sort of existential dread.

*I use depression and not a possibly better example because I'm able to relate to it, but also because I've never seen anybody get mad at the idea of curing it - it's just "obviously" not good.

This line of thinking only sounds deep because it's about the mind, and people have weird implicit dualism in their thoughts about the mind.

Like, let's talk about being born with one leg. Yeah, we have prosethetics to help, and we want society to treat them as anyone else, but we wouldn't say "oh, being born with one leg is normal". We would still acknowledge that it's a birth defect that is off the normative trajectory of development. We would want to restore function as best we can. Giving them a prosethetic isn't changing "who they are".
