I enjoyed them telling an original Spider-Man story, and I'm always down for a Sinister Six team up.

About as much as I would have expected from a really good Spider-Man story. Can't wait for the sequel in 2023.

Some ups and downs. The Sable stuff is a waste of time, and the breakout scene is stupid IMO. Most of the rest is good though, especially the Doc Ock stuff. The final battle story stuff is incredible.

The game balances an ensemble cast of both heroes and villains rather nicely. Miles' story especially plays out well as this side story that allows Peter and Miles to connect and have a relationship that feels special and unique. The podcast/radio shows add nice world building. There's a good bit of deep Marvel lore to flesh it out as well. The game's interpretation of Peter/Spider-Man feels like the perfect combo of all sources prior. Insomniac does a good job illustrating Peter's troubles as an individual and it feels relatable and a pointed contrast to the superheroic role of Spider-Man. It's nothing that hasn't already been seen in other Spidey comics and adaptations, but it executes it fantastically all the same.

Huge ups and downs, and bizarre pacing. I liked the beginning (but it's kinda slow) and the ending (but it felt rushed). All the stuff in the middle with Mr. Negative and then Sable was hard to care about. I really liked this game and was close to really liking its story too, but the more I think about it the lower my opinion on it gets. The characters are legit great, at least.

Since we're JUST rating the story here, I have to agree that the pacing was really weird, but I thought it was a pretty good adaptation with some great and heartfelt moments that set up Mile Morales and the formal sequel very well. I'm also not sure how I feel about them jumping right into Peter already being well into his days as Spider-Man from the beginning without any kind of origin story, especially since they want this to be a running series. I mean yeah, there's really one basic origin story for Spider-Man and everybody knows it but it still would have made the journey feel a little more complete. When I booted it up I pretty much felt like I was playing a sequel. Perhaps they'll do a bit of an origin flashback in Spider-Man 2. But anyway, the characters, gameplay, and overall game design do a really great job of making an above-average story seem better than it is for an overall fantastic game experience.

Have to admit I was underwhelmed by this one because of all the early hype. The characters, scenario, and villains are all solid, but nothing ever WOWED me.

Also, the MJ and Miles parts I could've done without.
