any of you like them more, generally than the matrix movies?

I've seen the first John Wick. Plot and direction were far from notable, but I liked the characters and world-building.

I saw The Matrix movies a long time ago. The first was decent, maybe even good, but the next two suffered a steep drop in quality.

I'd probably put the first John Wick above the matrix sequels but below The Matrix. Dunno where I'd place the rest of the Wick franchise.

The first one is legitimately outstanding and arguably the pinnacle of gun fu, at least in the west.

The second one is dumb but fun enough and the third is somewhere between the two, though closer to the first at times. (The entire opening act in New York is incredible.) High hopes for the fourth.

I don't normally watch movies like Wick, but the first movie felt like an art form.

In a good way.

The second and third just don't have that same flair to them that the first one did.

Love them.

I think it's currently the greatest action series ever made. The fight choreography is out of this world, much of it due to Keanu's dedication to the role and Chad Stahelski's directing and experience in the medium. Love the entire cast across the board. World-building is cool and interesting. The pacing is sublime, especially how everything snowballs over the entire trilogy and in each individual film as well. If you ask me, each film is actually better than the last.

I don't think it's as "brainy" as something like the original Matrix (& I dislike the original two Matrix sequels anyway), but I think that works in Wick's favor. To be frank, I don't ever really think to compare the two series besides them both having Keanu in them.

Wick 1 > The Matrix > Wick 3 > Wick 2 > Matrix 2 > Matrix 4 > Matrix 3

Wick 1 to me was just amazing. The plot was simple but made me instantly root for Wick.

Matrix 1 > Wick 1 > Wick 3 >Wick 2 >> Matrix 2 > Matrix 3

2nd only to fast and furious as the best film franchise of the past 20 years

The first one was so good it was mental.

The follow up was solid enough.

Third one was average to bad tbh. WAY too long.

I think I need to rewatch the first, because I remembered it being great

But when I watched the second, the action just didn't feel tight. And I thought the series was supposed to be all about the tightness of action/gunplay

Bad guys were just running up to him pointlessly and getting blasted, which made no sense

But maybe the first was like that, too. I dunno

matrix 1 > john wick 2 > matrix 2 > matrix 3 > john wick 1

the only good movie out of these was matrix 1. haven't seen john wick 3 or matrix 4 yet.

Only saw the first one and it was okay-ish, a bit overrated but meh
But what really ruined it for me, and it's a unpopular opinion, is that the whole movie was about revenge. But then when the main villian finally dies, it's very anti-climatic. I wanted it to be more satisifying. But then people tell me I get it all wrong and this isn't what John Wick is about. Fine. Then I am not about liking it, so that's it
