Well they tell themselves they are doing their research, but in reality all the do is go hunting for stuff that supports the position they already hold and accept it as truth regardless of it's validity.

It was already exposed that rightwing politicians that spread Covid BS have money invested in companies that manufacture treatments for Covid. So its to their benefit that more people get sick.

I would say some shit like, We need to make it so that politicians cant own stock but lets get serious thatll never happen.

It really does need to, though. They also shouldn't be able to own any investment properties, at least not if they're in a position to make decisions that will affect housing and/or commercial tenants. Also no presence on any corporation's board.

The right have the typical inclination to doubt any recommended change and so typically look for proof there is risks in the change.

The left have the typical inclination to pursue any recommended change and so typically look for proof there is benefit in the change.

Both sides believe they have done sufficient reading to justify their stance but fall prey to their confirmation biases. Anybody of any credibility makes sure to take on the full view of both those in agreement and those in opposition, but even then it's relatively easy to dismiss even valid arguments by downplaying concerns that don't align with personal priorities.

TRUMP WON! Who cares if all my evidence has been debunked multiple times over and there isn't a shred of anything that would suggest he won, a bunch of people think he won and do you think they would all lie?

Both sides are the same.

Pelosi just came out and said that's never going to happen. Sadly, run of the mill corruption like that is something both the Left and the Right won't let go.

I agree, it's called freethinking. The first freethinkers were Christians breaking free from Church authority and dogma.

I agree with this. The fact is that, from what I've seen, both sides will abuse the notion of facts in order to arrive at pre-determined conclusions. It doesn't matter what the truth is, both sides will only look at the facts to pick the ones which suits their world view. If Trump had won in 2020 then I feel entirely confident in saying that Republicans would be lining up en-mass to get the vaccine while Democrats would be refusing it and finding tons of whacked out theories to justify their refusal to get the vaccine. I've seen plenty of people who are, normally, sane either suddenly go wildly off the deep end believing any conspiracy theory to prove that the vaccine's don't work and go wildly off the deep end to justify any negative view of the un-vaccinated.

The problem is that no person can be reasonably expected to be capable of knowing enough to be informed about every situation. Fauchi, love him or hate him, is not an environmental scientist. While he may be knowledgeable about diseases he's not the person to go to in regards to climate change. Conversely a climate change scientist is not very knowledgeable about diseases. You just simply can't know enough to make an 'informed' decision on every matter.

However I feel a HUGE failing on all sides here is the diplomatic aspects of these issues. Regardless of if the lockdowns are the right response or not, if they work or not, the fact is that they've been a huge DIPLOMATIC failure. Many people who distrusted the government for one reason or another saw every fear they had justified practically overnight and many of the people who are un-vaccinated remain so specifically BECAUSE they don't trust the government and how it's handled the situation. It's made worse by the fact that you have the pro-lockdown states doing increasingly draconic things while the anti-lockdown states are the ones saying things like 'it should be your choice and we shouldn't force you to get it'. When you have such a contrast the pro-mandate side simply can't hope to win an argument.

Moving away from vaccines I see this pop up all the time elsewhere. Even people who claim to be intellectuals and college-educated and the like will instantly become no better than the 'ignorant masses' they claim to oppose once outside their field of study and, even inside it, we see things like people coming up with crack-pot theories via selecting data or, conversely, holding on to outdated ones through exactly the same methods.
